genuine curiosity: why do all you like the Prius so much (i promise, not a troll thread.)

K, Honestly. Not trying to troll (in this thread anyway )

Coming from an Audi fanatic. I have a 2000 A4 1.8T Quattro (all wheel drive). It's not stock by any means, it's got a Chipped ECU, full exhaust, full suspension upgrade, brake upgrade, stage 3 clutch, yada yada yada. The point is, i'm obviously not in it for the gas milage. That being said, i do see an average of 27 or so. Not terrible, but not hybrid-like. The main reason I drive this, is because i get immense enjoyment out of it. The feeling of a turbo coming to full spool is something that can't be compared to anything else. The ability to rip through corners and not get body roll, not lose traction. the whole enthusiastic driving experience is what i go for, i like to push the car, explore it's outer limits, see what it can do. of course, there's always the drive and the want to go faster.

on the seemingly opposite side of the spectrum, there's you guys. the prius drivers. (not trying to insult.) as i lurked, (for a couple hours) i've noticed many instances where people are saying how much of a joy the prius is to drive, how awesome the transmission is, the drive system, apparently it has torque hiding somewhere. i guess what i'm asking is what aspect of the driving experience it is that the prius makes shine? how is the ride quality? (granted, mine is rather stiff, due to the aftermarket suspension) what sort of interior stuff does it have? leather? heated seats? (i really don't know) awesome sound system?

for me, driving is the whole package, everything has to add up. the performance of the vehicle, decent gas milage is nice, adequate performance (mine has more than) the exhaust note, clutch feel, the sound system, heated seats are nice (mmm, warm butt on a cold minnesota winter day, lol) etc. it all adds up to an enjoyable ride.

is my mindset far to different to possibly grasp it, or do you think you may be able to shed some light? not that i in any way plan to buy a prius, i just figure i'd try to get a little insight from the other end of the spectrum.

again, i'm really honestly curious, and not trying to troll. this time. and hey, at least i'm honest.

 

so you would not say you are an automotive enthusiast then? that would be a big difference in views on this.

as to the responsibility thing, i feel it's perfectly acceptable to have a car capable of doing stupidly over the speed limit. just because it can, doesn't mean i do, on public roads anyway.


also: stealth mode: how do i get it? it's difficult when you drive a laser red car with no front plate. :rockon:

 

no front plate already helps, and unfortunately, i'm not willing to do that to the car's paint job.



not that it isn't already on it's way, what with rock chips and all. 130k and 8 years on the same paint job are starting to show. still looks gorgeous from more than a foot away though!

 

fair enough. but do you view the car as a hobby and a lifestyle? that's where i'm coming from on this. i'm looking for opinions from people who are like...i do not know. super into it.

but hey, every once in a (long) while a smooth quiet ride is nice, lol. not going to lie, interstate 94 gets old every once in a while with stiff suspension. there's that rare (RARE) time when i enjoy being a passenger in someone else's car, one with a nice floaty smooth makes-me-want-to-nap ride.

 

1: i see where you're coming from on this, considering...ALL of my 10 posts before that one were in fact troll-ish. However, with a title like the one i gave it, it could either be taken at face value, or taken as a troll thread. i didn't want it to be one, and i still don't. i'm really just curious.

2: bikes are cool. nice for a cruize on a lazy summer day.

i would definitely say that qualifies. i honestly don't know anything about anyone here (except my friend digital k, who i'm guessing is in not-good standing here), so i was just asking.

 

you are correct. however, as stated, this is not a troll thread. if it was, i wouldn't keep responding to people's individual statements, and make generalizations about everything.

look. frankly i don't care if you respond here or not, and i don't care what you think of me. it is what it is. the point is, i'm honestly curious, and just asking questions. don't answer if you don't want to. but don't assume that just because i trolled one thread, which you can easily not click on, that i always troll all the time no matter what.

as for the satisfaction that i get out of it, i guess it's just my skewed and twisted sense of humor. i'm much too cynical, sarcastic, and i'm pretty much an donkey sometimes.

i'm trying to keep this NOT one of those times. anywho, :focus:

 

i really don't see how age matters here, but in the spirit of keeping this a not-troll thread I'm 22. But, don't assume that because i'm young i lack life experience.

 

an indicator, sure, but not a guarantee. I know plenty of people with families that have modified cars. My friend Jordan is married with 4 kids, (he's late thirties) and his car is built to the hilt motorwise.

i'm sure there are people here who have modified their pri...i? (plural?) as well.

anyway, what does my age have to do with this? i'm curious where you're going to take this.
