    B doesn't appear until your in D

this whole thing doesn't make sense...

the first pic is a functional/running Mpg readout with two helper displays on the sides.

the second pic shows the system in a diagnostics mode.. the 04 and 05 prius had this for the mfd buttons. so maybe you can change the side bars? perhaps that's not legal, so the first pic is more like the current prius. (being revised, leaving the second pic as a pre-production tester?)

I think we're talking about different displays.
I'm talking about the little engine/battery with arrows showing energy flow. Sounds like you're just talking about the instantaneous MPG read out.

As far as that goes, I honestly couldn't tell you the last time I looked at that. I drive using the ICE RPM and battery charge/discharge amperage to guide my driving via CAN View.

    Interesting.

Of course I'm talking about the instantaneous MPG read out.

Sounds like you don't think that new feature next to the speedo is another representation of that same data.

    Tell me more.

No, I agree that the new feature is just another instantaneous MPG.

The confusion started when Marzprius said:
And I said the HiHy does have that and I don't find it very useful. And you said why not and now we're here.

I interpretted "Energy Mode Display" as refering to the little graphical battery/ICE/Wheels display on the energy screen. You interpreted it as the instantaneous mpg part.

    So...
    1) I don't really care about instantaneous MPG other than to confirm an ICE-off condition...no matter where it's located.
    2) A tiny graphical ICE/Battery display like on my HiHy is not something that I've found to be as informative as the larger graphic on the MFD.

Personally, I'm not too keen on the numbering. I don't like the little lines.

I just saw the meaning of the screenshot --- 100 MPG @ 60 MPH.

Was that pic taken in stealth mode or was the gas engine completely off? I guess we'll find out in 2 months.

I wouldn't read into that too much. Remember the Camry Hybrid's display of some ridiculously low AVG MPG?? Or the LS600h L at 9mpg?

Good point esp. since US/CAN cars need to switch betwen MPH and KM/H so having it engraved won't work but how do you know it's engraved? It doesn't seem like it to me both in spy pic #6 and the leaked photos.

100mpg @ 60mph-very appealing(and definitely trumps the so-called "prius killer"). Thanks for posting these peaks. On a side note, i projected the unveiling date from toyota's 2010 prius page and it came to Jan. 12. (5 days before detroit). anyone going there for the show? i am debating it and would take pics to post if needed. thanks, chris.

I'm certainly optimistic that they'll push the stealth speed up to the 62mph that the car is capable of...at least the 2G Prius is. They simply chose to govern it lower than that presumably to preserve battery life/range.

another plus point for it being the hud might be the fact that picture is perfectly taken - it is from photoshop. Meaning that they did not take the pic in the actual car, as they did so far... why would that be? only reason I could think off would be not to show it is HUD and also pictures of HUD are very hard to take...

i think EV mode at 60 mph is a bit optimistic. the speed and power available that is used during acceleration GREATLY affects range.

for example: my Zenn (granted completely different car here, but the number relationship is the same) with 25 mph software can do 40-50 miles on a charge.

with the 35 mph software, the range is 30-35... the difference in range is accelerated as the top speed increases. the power input to speed is not linear. so the difference in power consumption between say 50 mph and 60 mph is approaching 35-40%.

so EV mode at 60 mph would be great... but very very brief.

otoh, having the capability to do 60 mph in EV, would insure being able to maintain that at 35 mph in EV with occasional sudden accelerations (or at least acceleration at greater than gentle rates) would be welcomed with very open arms.

Well, we know that they've enabled the 2G prius to go 62mph in EV with the experimental/concept PHEV versions....so we know it's possible.

While I certainly think it would be pointless to accelerate in pure EV from 0-60mph there are sure times where it would be nice if the ICE would shut off and allow an ICE-off glide/coasting at higher speeds and enabling EV up to 62mph would allow that under almost all conditions I drive.

i agree the option would be cool, but i want a situation where we can "lock" into EV mode so greater acceleration at LOWER speeds would be possible. capacitors or such would probably be needed to provide the sudden greater current demand.

i FREQUENTLY (at least when i was primary driver) was in a situation where i had high SOC, but in stop and go downtown traffic where the slow acceleration that EV mode requires simply was not viable and would bounce in and out of ICE operation. this is especially aggravated in downtown Oly where the lights are only timed going east/west. if going north/south, forget it. there is no timing at all even from block to block.

other than that option, i dont see EV at 60 mph without a much larger battery available being that beneficial without plugging in.

sure, if a commute with a short stretch of highway speeds involved, if done all EV, that would be great. but with the estimated ranges i have seen for Toyota, i cant imagine that filling the needs of a lot of people.

now, give me at LEAST 20 miles, preferably 40 for a RT commute, and that would cover a lot of people i know anyway.

I like the new rounded edges. Makes the characters appear more natural and less computeristic.

I"m not opposed to the rounding of the numbers but someone would need to prove to me - beyond a shadow of a doubt - that they really and truly tried to not have the lines but simply couldn't do it. I can understand older cars and LED calculators when stick-drawn numbers and letters were the only thing possible given the technology at the time. Having lines like that on a 21st century car just doesn't seem right to me.

In all these sneak peeks, have Toyota actually confirmed that there will be an EV button on the US cars similar to Europe / Asia ? It would be a bit of a bummer if they didnt put this switch on your cars, because despite mpg degradation that some members on this forum have a problem with using an EV button, I find it absolutely fine to silently glide along and I drive so rubbish that my mpg improves when I use the EV button.

Looks just like the Honda Civic Hybrid arrangement, only reversed. My company has one, along with my Prius, and I prefer the Prius as it is easier to understand. The Honda batery charge guage is also like that.

I'm not sure but given that the LS600h L and the Highlander Hybrid both come with an EV button, I am hopeful for one on the Prius (esp. since it's the pioneer so it would be odd if it was missing something from the other vehicles).
