    The Bad:
About a month ago I had a major head-on accident with a minivan. The driver turned directly into me and both cars were totaled. My 2006, black Prius with 26,000 was gone in an instant.

    The Good:
Well to start, nobody was seriously hurt. My airbags deployed, but mostly I was secured by my seatbelt. Also, fortunately my 16 month old was not in the car at the time.

    The Really Good (almost surreal):
After doing all my research about values in the various periodicals, I was prepared to do battle with my insurance company. No need. In fact, my Prius had appreciated in value. Let me say that again…my Prius had appreciated in value. The insurance adjuster had never seen such a thing. In the end, I received enough to go to my local Toyota dealership and purchase a band new 2008.

So far we are very happy.

WOW!!! The insurance company recognized appreciation in value...amazing. What company if I can ask.

    Glad you're OK as well.

glad everything worked out for you... but to be honest with ya... breaking even.....thats ...ahh...ok i guess...

now me for example. i had a 2004 pkg 1. drove it 25 months, 30,000 miles had someone pull out in front of me. totaled it. well her insurance company paid for my rental car for 3½ weeks (there was an issue with the amount of the settlement that it had to be approved by managers at 3 different levels) well i paid $22,014.49 for the 2004 total out the door cost.... the insurance company paid me $23,800...

so i got my car paid for, PLUS gas, and oil changes, my CANVIEW, EV switch, ipod adapter, etc...half a dozen nights out...

well then again, i just used it to get my 2006 Prius...along with $2500 in upgrades... so it did cost me $1300. total out the door cost for the 2006 pkg 4 was $25,086.70

I am glad you did as well as you did. Actually I didn't provide all the details to you. I received a payment that covered my new 2008 pkg 6 (including what I owed & interest as I purchased before receiving my check from the insurance company), plus the payoff of my 2006 (including what I owed & interest) and still had about 1k change. So, in the end I think I did better than "ok".

Hanover Insurance. From beginning to end, they have been very responsive and helpful.

I had a similar experience with my insurance company (AAA). My neighbor's son drove in to the back of my 2008 Prius driving 45 mph while it was parked in front of my house. The Prius only had 465 miles on it at the time!

Check out the attached picture of the aftermath.

I can't say enough good things on how AAA handled the whole process. I received a check three weeks after the accident which covered the ENTIRE cost of a 2009 Prius.
