There seems to be an empty fuse strip marked unit B, yet my manual makes no mention of it. Anyone know what this is for?

It's not empty, it's just a junction block. If you pull it out there are 2 connectors hooked to it on the underside.

Is this a good place to tie into switched 12v power for an accessory fuse?

No, not at all. If you need a switched 12v source there is an empty tap on the relay/junction block to the left of the steering column.

There are no empty taps listed in the Bentley repair manual. The 10 amp seemingly "extra" fuse used for a rear fog light in Japan has no power to it. Are you talking about relay panel 2 on the cowl?

They are not listed but they are there. The panel I'm referring to is under the dash. If you remove the lower panel under the steering column and then remove the metal panel cover you will see 2 male connections in the middle of the junction block. The upper one is switched.

Thanks, you're right, but I'm seeking a switched power source in the engine compartment. The engine compartment block seems to have an unmarked 25A fuse but there is no power to it. There is a 30 amp fuse for a stereo power amp (I don't have) but the manual says it also feeds the multi-display. My accessory doesn't draw much power, but I was hoping to find a clean tap point.

Well, the fuse panel can be disassembled so you can access the underside. You could then add another circuit to one of the blank fuse locations and then run the circuit out to where needed it.
