I love my new Prius but there are a couple of things I really miss from my old Dodge Caravan:

    1) I miss the auto door lock when you were going over 15 miles per hour

    2) I miss the way the head lights turned off automatically after a couple of minutes if you left them on and the car wasn't running

I don't miss 18 miles to the gallon, though! I guess I'll have to learn to lock my doors and turn off my lights.

Has anyone modded their Prius so that the lights go off when you turn off the car ?

My other car is a Fiat Punto and this does exactly that.. leave the lights on and when you turn off the ignition the lights go off.. all of the lights, not just the headlights like the Prius.

What do you mean by "all of the lights, not just the headlights"? What you describe with your Fiat is exactly how my Prius works (U.S. version).

I've had several occasions where the parking lights have stayed on when shutting the car off. The headlights went off but that was it... I had to shut them off manually after powering up the vehicle.

On mine the headlights (or parking lights) don't go off instantly when I turn off the ignition, but do when I open the door. The other lights, interior ones, go out on a dimmer after the door has been closed.

The missing of the auto-lock feature in Prius keeps puzzling me.....

My headlights shut off when the car is powered down. Many times I have gotten into the car next day and discover the headlights were left in the on position, the battery none the worse for wear.
Can someone explain to me the appeal of autodoor locks? I'm not exagerating when I say I despise that "feature". How is this helpful? Whenever I get a rental with this it gives me fits when I stop and the doors are still locked and I want to let someone out or in. In another rant vein I also don't understand why interior lights have to be on a timer when you lock up the car. Just makes me wonder if the door is ajar, or in the Prius, if I forgot to power down. My most recent rental, an Impala, left the headlines on a timer when I locked it. Arrgh!

IMO auto-on headlights are overrated. One example of the Intrigue's poor design is no OFF switch for the headlights. How hard is it to lock the doors when you want and to turn on the lights when it is dark?

When my lights are on and I turn the car off, the lights will stay on, but when I open the drivers door, the lights will go off.

Then everything is working correctly. You never have to touch the light switch.

Why would you turn off the lights in the daytime? It's all about safety and other people being able to see you. :)

I don't like having to turn up and down the dimmer switch to change the navigation screen from night to day.

Yes, that's an issue I agree with. I wish it was auto dimming as it gets darker outside. But I do it when I have to.

Amen to that, particularly the auto door lock. If I want the doors locked, I lock them. If I want the doors unlocked...auto door lock would foul that up. I don't mind allowing something like that as some sort of option, but I don't want to be saddled with it. My wife and I have both had to use vehicles with this feature at times and hated it.

But I'm also the type that doesn't understand what the attraction is for the HID and fog lights. :noidea: Glad I don't have them.

No, it's about a misguided illusion of safety. :cheer2: There are times when running one's lights during the day makes good sense, and I use them then, but the blanket claim doesn't hold up.

Had to disable the DRL's on my Tundra as there was no switch (DRL's came with ABS.) Amateur astronomers hate unwanted light that does nothing, so when I go out observing I have to pull various automatic lights (esp. the cargo lamp which I've never replaced.) I laugh at/am annoyed by folks who love the "security lighting" out in the sticks--a very similar waste of energy for little/no benefit.
