That's the sphinx's riddle, that got Oedipus into so much trouble:

It's a man: He crawls in the "morning" of his life, walks upright in the "noon time" of his life, and uses a cane in the "evening" of his life.

Oedipus gave the right answer, causing the sphinx to stop terrorizing the city of Thebes, so they made him king, which meant he had to marry the queen, and she turned out to be his mom. Rough luck. He put his own eyes out and lived very unhappily until he died. He also killed his dad, but that was before he met the sphinx.
