Looking at the 2009 Prius brochure, it looks like Toyota is now offering an iPod interface as an accessory. Does anyone know what it does and if it will work with a 2008.
yeah it should work, considering toyota's ipod accessory was released in august 2007 they just do not go out of their way to publicize it
Cool. If you don't mind, what was the installed price? Looks like this may be a good option. I was considering the VAIS system.
Hey guys I just picked up my 2009. Im still monkeying around with the interface kit + my Iphone, its pretty neat so far. Ive had about 10 minutes to actually play around with it. I can tell you right off the bat that it will not charge an IPhone. It ended up being $325 on the sticker. Ill let you guys know what else I find and take some pics.
OK... It does not display track name or artists..... or anything for that matter, it treats it as if it were a cd. Sounds nice atleast. Anyone know if this is the right thing? On a side note... all the documentation looks like it will work fine on a 2008, just dont expect too much from it except sound quality.
$325 No artist name. No album name. No Track name. No iPhone charge. Fail. I mean, that's just incredibly lame. The ability to list the album, artist, and track name is a no brainer, and something that can be done in every other iPod adaptor that I can think of... Some companies get it, and some don't. You'd think that the company that's making one of the hippest cars on the road today would want to make sure that the hippest music device is totally integrated. Hell, I would have gone for a partnership with Apple. Total support. Instead, you get a $325(!!!!!) device that only gets you dash control. Fail.
yeah tell me about it... Im gonna see if I can have it returned. I think my sales guy was also under the impression that it would show track info. I mean why else would they all of the sudden start advertising the interface kit in the 09 brouchure unless it was actually useful?
looking at the picture makes me think that wasn't the official toyota part requires radio to be satellite ready, ipod interface and satellite radio cannot be installed at the same time i think the official toyota part number is PT545-00082
Interesting... hopefully I didn't get screwed over with the wrong part, I'll look into this. Update: after doing a little research it looks like they installed part number: 00016-00111 when it should be p/n: PT545-00082. Im not 100% sure yet, but Im going to get it switched if it is the wrong part. Thanks guys I would have never even assumed it was the wrong part installed. Ill keep you guys updated. Update #2: Ok so it turns out after doing a little research when the car came into port they installed the wrong kit... So, everyone ignore everything I have said about the iPod interface kit thus far... The unit I have installed is Part # 00016-00111 this SHOULD be part # PT545-00082. These should work completely different, the one I have installed is junk and runs through the CD changer, the other runs through the satelite radio... it may or may not do all the things its supposed to do like track info and such. Im going to email and call my sales guy and have them swapped. Sorry guys
I have a 2008 (pkg#5 with Nav) I got an audio cable for 12.00 and hooked it up to the AUX. I have to control everything except for volume from the Ipod. Oh well I wanted to keep my sat radio. Jay
Jay, True for everyone. What we want is control of the iPod using the Prius Touch screen and Steering Wheel. With the audio cable all you can control is the volume with the Prius controls.
So does the correct Toyota part number (PT545-00082) not allow you to have have XM radio installed with the iPod kit? Seems like a better option would be to go for one of Coastal Dave's iPod contraptions. GT
Is this true? Per the site with the part, it states you can not have both sat and this ipod interface installed?
Too bad the link does not include Prius specific instructions. And when you go to download the PDF file fie Prius, ooopppss there isn't one!! They are off to a great start!!! My Dice works just fine!! Pat KK6PD
Thanks for pointing me the this thread, I started the same one in the audio forum. So did you get the actual Toyota part yet - the one that requires a SAT radio? The new brochure on the Toyota website shows it hooked to an iPhone (or a iPod touch can't tell). Does the "right" unit charge the iPod/ iPhone? If hooked up that way, you couldn't use another charger. Given I've already got an AUX jack (that I hope Toyota will do the service bulletin fix on), it already does the same thing only slightly less audio quality - and I can charge and play at the same time (with a $5 12 volt car adapter). If its $300 and does not offer anything other than just treating an iPhone like a CD (no on screen controls, track name etc.) then why get it? I love my iPhone, but its a death trap in a car as operating it (as an iPod) while driving is down right dangerous. For $300 I could buy some really nice noise canceling headphones that I could use lots of places, not just in the car. Tell me something here is not right.
At this point, the DICE is in my opinion the best option for iPod integration. At $143.95, it's over 50% off the Toyota unit and shows track info, allows the use of playlists, etc. I haven't heard about any bugs with the most recent edition of the Silverline DICE: PriusChat Shop : DICE iPod Car Integration Unit [i-Toyota-R] - $143.95
Does anyone know how the DICE unit (or the Toyota unit, for that matter) handles podcasts, since podcasts aren't in the iPod's playlist hierarchy? Thanks!
The only way I can get Podcasts is to create a playlist that includes them. You can set the Smart Playlist so that it only shows ones that have a play count of zero.
