The 50cc car is a Peel P50 microcar comes from the Isle of Man off the English coast. The P50 was manufactured by Peel engineering in the early 1960's.

The diminutive P50 is 135 cm (51") long by 99 cm (39") wide and is powered by a 49 cc DKW fan cooled engine.

The P50 has 3 forward gears and no reverse, instead it comes equipped with a reversing "handle", literally a handle by which the 60 kg car can be dragged backward. :D

    (aproximate guestimate)

I saw this cute little Chinese import electric vehicle, the MILES ZX40, behind
a Dodge dealer in Hazlet, NJ, on a road trip this weekend:

    http://priuschat.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=10795&stc=1&d=1217802185

    ZX40S [from Wikipedia]
"The ZX40S was designed to accelerate faster than the ZX40. It is powered
by a 72-volt system instead of a 48-volt system, which extends its range to
50-60 miles (96 to 128 km) . To comply with federal law, the ZX40S is also
    electronically speed-limited to 25mph like the ZX40.

The ZX40 and ZX40S are classified as "low-speed vehicles", meaning they
have fewer regulations to comply with. Such vehicles must include standard
lighting and seatbelts, but do not require passive restraints, typically airbags
in higher-speed vehicles. The vehicles should not exceed 25 mph (40 km/h)
on streets with posted speed limits of 35 mph or less.[5]

    MSRP $19,499 USD"

That seems a little pricey for what is essentially an all weather golf cart.

See also the MILES website for more info, especially the XS500 Highway
    Speed Sedan, very interesting indeed:

Gotta smile at that cyclops instrument "panel" & "magic wand" shifter!

10 pts. to whoever recognizes it.
Hint: My father bought one like this new in 1961 for $850.

    Spectra,

Been puzzling over the picture you posted.

Am I mistaken, or does this car have "suicide doors?"

Is it cheating to ask if its a 2 or 4 door model?

Not a Metropolitan KandyRed -- even smaller than that.
And, it was a 2-dr. model, so no suicide doors, Rokeby.

Survey says .......... the original "Mini."
It went by various names, but we had the '61 "Austin 850" (hint was $850 price, new) with an 848 cc. engine that rocked out 35 hp.

Cyclops speedometer was dead-center, so that the huge bus-like steering wheel could be placed on either side, for either Brits & Aussies or us Yanks.

The car's long, gone, but, it sure makes me smile to see one!

So were those mid '60's Lincolns --

When Caddy's were parading around to see which year could grow the biggest fins (size did matter), the 'slab-side' Linc's took a whole different tactic.
