So I washed my Prius today and by chance found a couple small rubber bumpers in my driveway. Not sure what they were I decided to check my car doors as they seemed familiar. I found the driver and passenger door lower bumpers were missing. Be very careful when washing your car as they pop off very easily when you wipe the car down.
Take the car back to the dealership to get them put back on. You should still have some bumper-to-bumper warranty left.
Thanks for the heads up and pics. You might bring it up next time you are at the dealership. They might have some replacements since yours are prone to fall out. That way you will have some backups if nothing else. They might even be redesigned so they stay put...although I've been disappointed with Toyota in this regards on my Tundra. (Blower knob plastic cracked around shaft as did the rear window hinge--ordered aftermarket aluminum replacments for the latter, pain in the a$$ to install such a simple part.) Other Japanese cars I've owned tend to have fixes for common failures like that, rather than putting back in the same part so that it fails again within a few years.
I won't be visiting a stealership anytime soon for something this minor, major engine issue yes but not for this. I prefer to stay away from stealership parts and service departments. I am sure though they could provide me with replacements, but not for free. Mine are not prone to fall out (on their own), they fell out because as I was wiping the inside of my doors and I must have knocked them out. Usually I am more attentive to what I am doing, must be getting old. I doubt Toyota will change the design of these door bumpers as it isn't a safety issue and I am sure they don't ever fall out on their own. I only posted this as a heads up, especially for those that have others wash or maintain their Prius. If you didn't know they were there to begin with, then you wouldn't know they were missing, note to self.
I think SCfromSC's "bumper to bumper" warranty comment was intended as humor since the issue concerned rubber door bumpers falling off. I found it funny, at least. BJJB
Same thing with the rubber pad on the parking brake. It snaps off & on way too easy. A little bit of epoxy on BOTH is the way to keep 'em from being an issue. Cheers
Gerat idea! I'd use a clear silicone cement though, something less permanent than epoxy in case thay ever need to be removed for whatever reason.
Never really paid attention to the rubber stoppers...I think mine are still there, but will check when I get home.
