After a year of driving my Pri I FINALLY broke the magical 60 mpg barrier! I had to fill up before my standard requirement of 500 miles because of a trip into the city tonight and back home again to IN this weekend and my MFD read...(drum roll) 61.2! (490 miles?) Could only get 7.68 gallons in and I was grinning from ear to ear!
Congrats! I've had a pretty similar experience. Last year at this time, right after I bought my Prius, I was getting MPGs in the low- to mid-50s. Of my past 8 tanks this summer, four of them have been above 60. It seems I, too, may have gone through the break-in period for both car and driver!
Congratulations! I just came back from a trip to southern VA this past weekend and somehow managed to get up to 59.2, I was soooo close. Of course, once I got on the beltway in No. VA, it dropped like a rock to 58.9. I was heartbroken, but I too believe that I must have finally hit a major break-in point, as I was only able to achieve 50-54 previously.
Congratulations. Every 60+ mpg tank is a joy. I'm looking forward to the time when that is the running average. Not to pee on your parade BUT it isn't official until the next tank proves to be average or better. A great tank followed by a poor tank indicates a fueling problem. You really had two average tanks. This is always a bummer.
I can't say this from experience (Illinois, remember!), but I would expect an EBH to help increase your mileage as well. The increase would be more noticeable during those cold Florida winters!
