I really wish the dealer told/showed me...(post your wishes)

It was written for the 2004 but the current model is essentially unchanged (except, don't expect to get valet instruction cards).

 

I wish they had told me that the hands-free phone they would add to my package 2 was NOT the factory-type phone, but a $250.00 kit that costs $100 to install and that they billed me $1300 for...

Later I had them remove the device, and refund my $1300 after threatening them with every consumer advocate retaliation I could think of. I later had the hands-free device installed by the same guy they sub out to for $300. I had to as California just enacted the hands-free car phone law this July 1st.

 

here in california, the going rate for having your cabin air filter changed out is 69.95 ! and that is with a coupon!!!

 

that the stealth device they were installing for $995 actually only tells me where my car is located for a yearly fee and charge per location request, and that it is NOT used by law enforcement authorities like LOJACK is.

 

This may not be a question for this forum, but . . . Bought my Prius on June 5th and covered all of the financial stuff with the salesman (internet manager). He then turns me over to the finance guy who gives me the actual Sales Agreement with each item itemized. I look at it and say "This isn't right". He says it is. The final figure was lower than I had expected.

Now he's calling me saying the computer figured the tax rate wrong and they need $740 more.

What would you do?

 

Dealer made a mistake,you have a binding contract.
Similar thing happened to me a few years back.
Bought my wife a new T-Bird,Ford sent me a $ 700.00 rebate check to use if I bought another car.
So,off I go to buy a new car.
Check stated do not show to salesperson,mail in for rebate.
Two weeks later I got a call,they call wanted 700 bucks.
I told them a deal is a deal.
The next day I walk out to get in my car,its gone!
The dealer took my car.
Lawyer said I could pay him,some months later get my car back.
Advised it would be cheaper to pay the dealer.
Of course I spread the word for years,know for a fact I cost them money.

Wish the dealer would of told me there is no road hazard warranty on the tires You need to go to tirerack or discount tire and purchase. Mine was 60.00 dollars for all four tires at Discount and tirerack is cheaper .
Believe me you will have a better piece of mind when driving.

 

Purchases my 2008 3 months ago and love it.
I know I should have looked for myslf, but was supprised to find once I was home and over the "Wow I just bought a Prius" feeling that with all the bells and whistles it did not have daytime running lights. :Cry:

I really wish the salesman had NOT lied to me, telling me that it would run 100 miles on battery power, if I ever ran out of gas. Never tested that, but was able to make it stumble along, turning off and resting, then turning on and driving a bit, for maybe a mile to a gas station. This was way back right after I'd just gotten it.

I've still never been able to get an answer for this. Not in the manual or anywhere else. Why is there a "B" (stands for Battery) on the gear shift panel, since you're not actually supposed to be able to drive it that way?

 

huh? I have not read about this key, are you talking about the one in the fob?

 

A note on this (I reprogrammed the unlocking this weekend):

The manual has you press the panic button on the keyfob while pressing the lock button on the keyfob, however it indicate the panic button by the incorrect symbol (in my 2008 Manual, anyway). The symbol it shows has a little speaker with one type of soundwaves, but the actual panic button has a little speaker with a different-looking set of soundwaves.

In other words, the button picture in the manual has soundwaves that look like those with the Wireless connection icon in Windows XP, and the actual panic button are different.

Once I realized I thought it was talking about pushing the panic button, I was slightly concerned about activating the panic button. No problems when I did it, though.

Sorry if this was already noted in PC.

That is not battery but Braking. It is sort of like downshifting. I suppose if you drove up and down mountains you might need it.
I never downshifted except to stop when I drove a manual trans. so don't expect to need the B

 

I wish my salesperson had showed me more of the options available. Actually I was too cheap to go for anything more than the #2 pkg. Now I wish I had the GPS...but I love wandering and wondering where I am! Anyone know of a good add on GPS system...saw one on a Harley the other day and thought it was too cool.

 

Well, here is a "BIGGY". I just found out after losing both of my smart keys that I need to replace the entire computer on my '07 in order to reprogram new keys. This will cost just under $1500.00. Needless to say, I am not only embarassed to admit to losing both keys, I'm quite sad to not have been told about this. Seems a major point to me. Would anyone like to join me in a pity party????? Oh, I also needed a tow to dealership. sob. sob.

Before you pay all that money for the new computer (supposedly not required any more), do a search here about key or fob programming. I think it may have been a Prius tech who posts here or galaxee (whose husband was a Prius tech) who said now you don't need to replace the computer but only need the dealer to call Toyota for a secret code to unlock your present computer. Then they can program your car to accept the new fobs. Maybe somebody else can jump in here & link you to that post (I'll try to find it, but I usually don't have very good luck with my searches).

How have you managed to lose both fobs? Since my car also has the SKS system, my fob stays in my pocket all day until I undress at night. Then my fob comes out along with my wallet & the 2 stay together (always in the same place) until I put them back in my pocket the next day when I get ready to go back out again. A lot of manufacturers are now using electronic fobs in place of metal keys & some of them are a lot more expensive than Toyota's. Maybe you should invest in one of those key locator devices that are out there to attach to your fob ring. You either clap or whistle & the device beeps back at you to help you find it (& your fob).

Unless you think you may ever come up with your original fobs, make sure your dealer deletes the 2 that are presently registered before he adds the 2 new ones (I do recommend you buy 2 because if & when you lose the next one, it will make it easier to re-program the car for your next replacement). If the dealer doesn't delete your originals, then whoever might find one of them may know it's from your car & would be able to drive off with your baby. But if you ever find it yourself, it should be able to be added back into your car's computer & you'd have a working spare again.

O.K., I had my usual poor luck with the searches until I tried "lost fobs". In the list that came up I found the thread I was look'g for. It's in the "Care, maintenance, & troubleshooting" section (Pg 8). There are 26 posts on 3 pages, but especially read the ones by galaxee (who started the thread). You may want to print out the reference to the pertinant TSB for your dealer (or the TSB itself if she got it into the "Knowledge Base" section). I'll try to add the link to the care & maint. thread 1st & then knowledge base.

Apparently the "Knowledge Base" thing that galaxee spoke of in her post #15 didn't get into that system (at least I couldn't find it). But in the process I also found that you posted your more detailed question in the "Technical Discussion" section & galaxee responded directly to you there with a link to her original thread from back in July of 2006.

To show you a list of things the dealer can turn on and off only at the dealership after you have had the prius for a few weeks and you learn you have paid for these items and they are just deactivated.

I really wish the dealer had shown us a breakdown of the charges that showed my $500 deposit being deducted off the final price. Because they "forgot" to deduct it off until we remembered it. Oops.

You should also know that "it ain't over 'till it's over". During the settlement, you can still squeeze the dealer for any "throw-in" items, like floor mats etc. because they want you to give them an "excellent" rating on the Toyota customer satisfaction survey. In fact, once they have the car and you are settling on it, that's the ideal time - so they can't back out and sell the car out from under you.

 

Hello all...

I recently traded my 2007 Prius for a new 2008. I loved the 2007, but not the Silver Pine Mecca color and, although it was a touring model, it lacked the technology inside to match the stuff under the hood. So, now I have one just the way I wanted it.

I sure wish the dealer told me about the iPod/iPhone connector accessory, I'd have built it into the deal!
