I think this thread started something. We just had our first failure-- spring assist in the upper glove compartment lid-- anyone had and fixed this? '04 with 93,100 miles. That Platinum Warranty was a scam. They knew from the beginning I would never need it. Grrrrrr. ;)

hmmm. since i have nothing to do tonight, i might go rent that one.
then i'll know what you're talking about...

you over there! don't say anything else!
    :D

we had our 05 done under basic warranty, so i'm not sure about the extended warranty. we saw that one coming, fortunately, so we got it in before the basic ended.

Geez, 2 light bulbs in 1 month? And without puncture proof tires? Next you'll tell us you have to replace the GAS in it every 5 or 6 hundred miles too! Galaxee, no one would buy such an unreliable hunk of steel (and aluminum, and plastic). You are DREAMIN!!

    ;)

I am a bit concerned about the "DH moved away today" comment though. Seems a more serious than the tail light.

My parking break rubber pedal cover is already off, gone, lost. Not even going to replace it. If it turns up, I'll try to glue it on. But I'm not buying a replacement.

You guys think you have problems? Just 66,000 miles, and the little cover for the 12V socket under the dash broke and fell off!!! Oh, the humanity! I will try to limp along without the socket covered. It is the first problem in 2 1/2 years. Is this the start of something bigger? I hope not.

Thank you all! I am going shopping today....
    Let's see....what do I need....
Headlight, the left side right?, taillights - both sides, cover for 12V socket, upper glove compartment spring, rubber cover on gas pedal, drive side door rubber....is my list complete? This way it will be the anticipated failures! :)

Unlike a halogen headlight which would be readily apparent when it burns out, there is no warning system built into the Prius (at least 2005 and earlier) to warn you when a tail light or side marker goes out.

After 40,000+ miles, I felt totally let down by Toyota when it took having a brother call to inform me that I just drove off into the darkness with half my taillights out. Upon further inspection I found a front side marker burnt too.

What the heck is Toyota trying to do? Kill us off with their lack of concern for our welfare, or are they trying to get us into accidents whereby we total the car and then go back to the dealer to purchase a replacement Prius? :suspicious:

Is that due to some electrical anomaly with the power supply, or if one halogen goes out, the other is not far behind?

Orrrrrrr, is it that your DH is still not deprogrammed from Toyota's brainwashing of employees with the slimy tactic of upselling unsuspecting customers with that needless preventative maintenance ploy of replacing totally good parts with overpriced replacement parts and labor???? :suspicious: j/k

if one goes, the other is likely about to follow suit. also, then the beams match in terms of brightness. they usually are available in 2-packs for a little cheaper than buying 2 bulbs individually... i think they cost $22 at advance auto down the road from us. just took DH a few minutes to pop them in. i also replaced both tail light bulbs when the one went. cost under $5 and it takes about a minute to replace them both.

i know you were joking, but DH has made plenty of sacrifices to maintain his integrity. he quit the best paying/most physically optimal job he ever had several years ago over ethical considerations. also, he had several years of experience as a mechanic before he got into the toyota game so he has his own opinions about maintenance.

speaking of the 12v outlet under the dash, my first issue is that it came out of the dash when I removed my gps power plug. it appears to be tightly hanging on to the plug. is the plug too tight or the gps plug too tight?

not sure how to fix it.

Oh, noes.....this is obviously a problem for deaf people who cross the street at night. They won't be able to see the Prius coming at them if the headlights burn out. I had better write a letter to my representatives so they can introduce legislation to solve this potentially horrible problem. If they made the car glow in the dark, that would prevent a catastrophy.
