I've been watching Craigs List in the Bay Area for months. Recently, in about the last week, more and more dealers are starting to advertise MSRP or less and others that are asking way over MSRP seem to be relisting the same Prius's over and over....that is they're not selling at the marked up price.

    Could be my imagination.

It could very well be, I'll have to ask around a little here. My guess is since gas prices have levelled off a little the past couple weeks and even eased slightly, people are second guessing whether or not they're going to continue their rapid climb upward and are debating the neccesity of buying a Prius NOW.

around here there is still a waiting list for prius at MSRP. until i actually drive by the
lot and see a few sitting there... i would say demand is high.

dealers around here never did charge over MSRP...

Hmmm....you know...I think I can live with this disappointment...I've still got my Prius.:D

Whoever "they" is can keep their nasty $30K, unless of course they just want to give it to me.

If we don't have a hurricane shutdown Gulf oil production and no other problems, we should see gas prices tumble in Oct-Nov. There should be some good buys then.

I also live it the San Francisco Bay Area and look at Craig's List regularly. Some dealers may be advertising MSRP but I think that it is just a come-on. Because of a parts shortage, Toyota still cannot keep up with Prius buyer demand. (If I recall, last month Toyota shipped 6% fewer Prius automobiles because of the parts shortage.) The dealers can advertise whatever they want, but they cannot deliver. I believe that the "panic" is over, but the demand is still greater than supply

Is the China and India auto market decreasing? This may be a short term breather in the gas prices falling below $4.00 a gallon. The shock has settled for the time being but most people with gas guzzlers still feel the burn in the pocket book. The Prius will remain a best seller for a long time.It may be less scarce in the future and that will be better for all of us. Look at the cars in its competition, small cars getting 10-15 MPG's less than the Prius...
And hopefully, people will buy the smaller less expensive cars. This will also be an improvement in changing the SUV mentality.

My wife just told me she's still getting calls from dealers we spoke with a few months ago who now say they have 4 - 12 in stock. There seems to be a surplus. When we originally spoke with them, they said 3-6 months. This is in the Tampa, FL area.

First, let me throw out that I'm not an expert in gas prices/trends and really don't follow them much. With that being said, it would make sense to me that fuel prices would drop somewhat this time of the year because schools around the country are starting back up and the family summer road trips are coming to an end. Is this just a seasonal drop? We're at around $3.75/gallon here in AZ now. It's down a good $.50 - $.70 from a couple of weeks ago.
