I just took my "new" 2007 Prius in to Koons Tysons Toyota for its first scheduled service at 5000 miles post-purchase, and luckily for me I decided to go wash the car afterwards.

The grease monkey - I mean, auto repair specialist forgot to replace the air cleaner cover back on the intake housing...I found it laying upside down, on top of the intake, angling down towards the radiator!!!!:mad::mad::mad:

So, unfortunately - all I can say is that if/when I return to any Toyo dealer for the scheduled maintenance visits, I WILL be attending and watching the shop rats.

Unacceptable and saddens me; this is the first "new" car I've purchased in over 18 years (always bought used) so I was hoping for the best. Oh well, I've always done my own maintenance before, guess I'll be doing it again...no biggie. Koons just confirmed my innate fear of dealership mechanics.

    Adam,

I too had dealings with Koons Toyota when I was in the process of trying to purchase a Prius. I called the stealership and asked if they could beat Carmax on a #6. The internet sales rep, scott, said that they could beat the price of Carmax but, he would have to call me back. I still have not heard back from him. Needless to say, I walked out of Carmax with a new package #6 for $25,800. I doubt I will ever do busniess with that stealership. I wonder if Crystal Koons knows what her employees do or does she just do commercials?

I had a decent experience buying my prius from them, but I prefer to do my service myself... This will make me think twice before servicing mine there... at least for the routine stuff.

I once had my Prius serviced at a non-dealer. Apparently, one of the mechanics that works there "has been spoken to" several times. The doof left the oil cap off and the oil spewed over my engine. I took it to the dealer to have it degreased, and the service station reimbursed me for the cost.

It sounds like some people have had problems at this dealer, but I would not necessarily blame the dealership for this. I would report this to the service manager. They know who serviced your car, and if they are reputable, they will "speak to the doof" who serviced your car. If something goes wrong, complain. The response you get from the service manager will indicate whether you should continue to take your car there. Unfortunately, doofs can pass for competent people almost anywhere.

I guess when Crystal says, "We're gonna WOW ya!" she really means it. When Adam looked under his hood, I'm sure he said WOW..... and a few other choice words! I've never dealt with Koons Tysons so I can't really comment on their service dept. From what I hear, I'll stay away. I think she's just a pretty face for their dealership. There was talk a while back if her last name was really Koons or not. Maybe she's an imposter...

Off topic: Two guys drove my Prius while I was a way from it with my key!

A little off topic, yesterday I took my car to a car wash (because I live in the Boston, I can't do it my self). I parked under a tree that dripped sap on my prius and made me spring for an 8.95 car wash, the first with only 800 miles on it. As I pulled up the guy working there told me to get out and he was going to drive it in, I gathered my cell phone and gps and followed instructions to go inside. I went in paid the cashier, looked around the convenient store and then noticed I could see my prius going on the track, but no one was in it. I figured it was in neutral because the screen was still lit. I then proceeded to follow it down the track, waited for another two other guys to wipe it down, then one got in drove it out of the car wash and proceeded to wipe it down more. As I walked to the car I motioned to grab my keys, which were in my pocket the whole time. How is this possible? It seems crazy that two guys drove the car while I was a good way away from it. I looked in the manual briefly and it shows the "range" where the smart key needs to be to work. Anyone else believe this?

the key is only needed to start the car.... nothing else. start the car, toss key out window, car will run all day, or until it runs out of gas

I switched vehicles with my wife once (while they were both running) and almost let her drive to the store without the key.... she would have been pretty impressed to say the least if she got back to the car and couldn't get in/start it.

Always open your hood and look around after an oil change or other under-hood service. I always check the oil level if I let the dealership do that service. Mechanics sometimes forget things, just like you and me.

I don't trust any of the big-city northern VA dealerships too much. I go to a smaller dealership that I trust a bit more, way, way south of DC.

Bought my 07 Prius last year from Koons. They had over 70 on the lot back then. They wanted the business so bad that they sent their salesman 60 miles north (one way) to my home to drive me down to complete the agreed to deal. They beat the pants off all other dealers as far as price, including Carmax. Everybody else gave me the "I don't see how they can sell at that price" line. I knew I'd be doing my own maintenance so that wasn't a deciding factor for me at all.

As far as Krystal goes, yes she's the daughter of Jim Koons who owns a lot of dealerships. She was hands on years ago in the Chevy dealership down the road. She was the "manager" they'd make you sit down and wait for to come in and pressure you to make the sale/trade when you were ready to walk out. From what I understand she is no longer hands-on and is only working the Koons marketing campaign.

These stories are very sad. Unlike all these unpleasant experiences I had a great experience at an independent Toyota and Lexus Hybrid certified repair shop in chantilly VA. Called Chantilly lexus and toyota Repair Center, they were very nice and extremely knowledgeable. They use factory parts at much lower cost with better service.

I have not had any problems with Jack Taylor's Toyota. They even covered a part when my warranty had just expired.

I guess everyone has a story. I bought my 2008 Prius there and there is a story there too. The sale manager sent me an email saying that they get in a low milege Prius that I was looking at withmy trade ect for $250 per monthand a five year loan. I had been out there a few times and I was willing to wait until a Prius came up that I wanted to spend on..now I asked him in emails several questions about the the loan ect and he said, just bring your papers nad it would be OK ....so I drive to Koons , they're about a 30 minute drive and met my salesman and he was a little surprised when I showed him the emails from the sales manager. Well, the sales manager came over blushing and told me he had made a typo in the emails...$350 per month rather than $250. Well,I told him, no, I knew what I wanted to pay and it was his mistake and I was going home. Well, he actually worked things out so that it would meet almost what I wanted...by giving me,more on my trade and lower the interest rate. 20 minutes later I was driving away. They didn't need to do anything as it likely was just a mistake.

Now even something else came from Koons in Tysons that surprised me a few days ago. They offered me the standard extended warranty for $1200 when I bought the car but I turned them down as knew i could get a better deal here. Now I still am under 36k miles so I had time. Well,it seems they didn't do a complete search on my Prius as the last owner had bought a Certified Platinum Warranty when the Prius was new...they didn't seem to know this when I purchased the car but somehow it must have come up. I called Toyota to see what was going on and I was the warranty was transfered into my name a few weeks ago from the previous owner.

Now they didn't need to do this...\

Now this isn't an oil change but these kind of things are just as important too when it comes to the ethics of a auto dealership. There are always going to be people who don't do a good job, but that shouldn't reflect on the entire dealership.

I called them a few days ago and they quoted me 280$ for a transmission flush. I don't know if they simply made a careless mistake or if they're really trying to rip me off... but it isn't possible to do a transmission flush on a prius... only a drain and refill...

I did it myself for about $32.59 in parts and a one-time cost of ~90$ for tools (socket/hex key sets and torque wrenches) gonna need em sooner or later - plus they're reusable for the next transmission oil change I do for me or a friend.

I just purchased a 2010 Prius from Koons of Tysons, Brian Kim sales rep, and had a overall good experience. Plus I've used them several times for service on a corrola, again overall good experience. The Dealership to stay away from is Orisman in Chantilly. My opinion after attempting to purchase a new car and using their service center is they are a bunch of idiots.
