Yeah... sell the Prius and go buy a gas guzzler - that seems to be what you really want.

 

easy to beat that mustang on a stoplight sprint

put you left foot on the brake and right foot pushdown the gas pedal to reff up the engine
then lett go of the brake and OFF you go.. faster then any mustang or any sports car

Prius or not, the last thing we need on the roads is another irresponsible, rude, road-racer putting all our lives (yes, including yours, Ballin) at risk, and increasing all of our (again, yours too) our insurance rates.

You can derive considerable enjoyment from the Prius based on its remarkable technological advances. After 6 months & 4,100 miles, I'm still amazed daily.

You will find numerous tips toward improved MPG found on this website. Don't roll your eyes yet. By following these suggestions you'll actually find that you become a more courteous & sensible driver. If it's girls who you are trying to impress with speed, you'll find that you may be attracting a more mature clientele this way.

The Prius is a terrifically sharp looking & handling car. It attracts comments continually even in it's most basic condition. Why not maintain it as THE most futuristic & fun car on the road? The chicks'll still be interested.

If you enjoy your Prius so much, then stop trying to act like a spoiled rich white kid... "upgrading" it to try and beat a mustang will ruin the value of the car - good gas mileage. The Prius wasn't made for racing, end of story.

 

My Prius beats most cars off the line, but in a real race you will only win in a cross country race

In my other life of owning a Supra I was able to win "races" by psych<sp?> out the person at the light so bad they would miss a shift....of course this was always on closed streets and was horribly irresponsible.

 

Actually, it's quite easy. Just plan a course that passes a gas station, that's where you'll pass him...

 

I love it when people on this forum say, "the prius is faster off the line than any sports car". Do you really believe that? Please, Please, someone here in AZ that thinks this is the case step up and let's race. Okay, maybe my Prius is "fast" from 0-1.7 mph, but after that. Yea, I know an electric motor is at 100% torque at zero RPM and in a controlled environment where you tested a gas motor and an electric motor the electric motor would win... but in the real world we have rubber tires and electronics to save drive train components (in the Prius).

Once again.... if someone in the Phoenix area or passing through wants to race their Prius (regardless of mods) against my completely stock '08 Jeep SRT8, please let me know. Even when I beat you I'll buy you dinner just for the fun of showing up.

you would need to rebuild the whole bottom end to handle the extra load.


the ICE isnt incredibly robust...i doubt it would last too long. plus there is the extra load on the synergy drive

 

Not sure but let use know.....check local laws about having those bottles in youre car and make sure to have it professionally installed

oh and i am sure the traction control system would freak and give you a jerky ride, also over rev'ing the electric motor isnt good....

and its called Nitrous in the scene if you want to maintain some respect

 

I'd have to agree with that. I have as much fun playing the video game on the dash as I did squealing the tires on my WRX.

If you want to beat a Mustang, let the air out of his tires and siphon his gas. Or see who can make it farther on $5.

There is at least one example of someone putting an Echo engine in a Prius, which is good for about 40hp, and there is a turbo kit for the Echo engine, maybe good for another 30hp. Even then thats only going to put you into a respectable 7-8s 0-60 kind of class I would think. Might beat a V6 Mustang, but not a GT. And thats already with substantial effort and cost and will pretty much trash your mileage.

An Insight might be a better platform if you really want an econo-rocket. 5sp transmission helps a lot in that regard, as does smaller size and weight. Given the number of Honda tuners out there you'd stand a good chance of being able to upgrade it. You can think of the Insight as a modern CRX-HF, someone just needs to figure out how to make it an SI. Not that I would condone that sort of activity

Better yet, just learn to love what you got. It takes a lot more balls to drive something uncool than vice-cersa. Plus, chics dig guys in Priuses! :cheer2:

Wow, you're going to blow up your car. By blow up I don't mean you're going to blow your engine but you're going to tweak the wrong thing and get the triangle of death. I'm all for modifying vehicle... heck, I do my own fabrication on other vehicles... but the Prius is not a car to tweak much with. The electronics are a gentle balancing act and everything relies on everything else. Good luck, but please don't be disappointed when you lose races with the Prius. It's not a stoplight to stoplight type of car. It's really not.

 

Also keep in mind when something "bad" breaks on the Prius it's several thousand dollars to fix. If you have any engine/drivetrain related mods you'll be hard pressed to get a dealer to warranty one of these expensive parts if they were to fail. The Prius is great because it's one of the most reliable vehicles out there and the warranty on the expensive "stuff" is very long... start messing around though and you may wish you left it stock.

 

How about adding an extra battery pack, electric motors for the rear wheels, and an extra computer or two to manage it all? The rear electric motors wouldn't stress the existing power train.
