No one! Driver of SUV, was his 2 nd DWI in 4 days. They brought in a helo and 4 EMVs all of which went to the vehicle that caused the wreck. I went back up the road to retrievIe a blanket from the SUV because the guy in the ditch was getting eaten alive, in shock and flagged an abulance to come up the HWY!

I have to say, I was diappointed with the person from homeland security that arrived on the scene about the same tiime as HWY patrol. This person seemed out of place. I think it was age (young) and inexperience.

I'm all for the US drilling offshore, domestic land drilling, shale, and ANWR. Matter of fact, if I were in charge, I'd force a law through that prohibited crude oil and natural gas imports.

Thing is, ever consider why domesitc production is so low?

I don't believe in Conspiracy Theories, as most of them are crackpot delusions to find simple "solutions" to very complex problems. There is no Conspiracy keeping us from using our "own" oil

What is happening is a matter of Cost of Extraction. Consider offshore drilling. If it was so s*** hot, why does the Hibernia development near the Grand Banks of Newfoundland require a massive Crown Corporation, the Hibernia Management and Development Co?

Right, the sky-high production costs. When you're spending hundreds of millions per well, that adds up. That would work out to about $25 in 1993 Cdn dollars. At the time it was considered a huge boondoggle, even BusinessWeek admitted so

    BW Online | February 1, 1993 | A SINKHOLE CALLED HIBERNIA

Canada is a good place for oil companies to do business. With various outright subsidies, Crown Corps to legally and financially hide behind, and very favorable corp tax laws compared to the US, a lot of oil companies are literally banking on Canadian taxpayers for increased profits

    jasonwettstein.com

Why has the HMDC siphoned off BILLIONS of Canadian Taxpayer dollars to help subsidize American oil companies? Even now with oil prices comfortably above $100 a barrel, HMDC not only still exists, but is siphoning off more taxpayer dollars. Why is a Crown Corp needed when supposedly the Grand Banks oil is so dirt cheap to get??

Of course, the regional partners are quite upset with EM due to not sharing the profits. Once the price of oil went up, EM and others realized that not only could the production cost be still covered by Canadian taxpayers, but they could keep the profits too.

It's nice when you can pretend to be a God Fearing Capitalist corporation, but hide behind the skirts of an evil Socialist Crown Corporation. Very interesting hipocracy at work. After all, the original promise to the taxpayers of Canada was to share the profit, that appears to have been conveniently forgotten

Open your books, N.L. premier tells ExxonMobil

Tar sands and shale has also been a taxpayer boondoggle here in Canada.

globeandmail.com: How the Alberta oil sands have changed Canada

I've never believed in Welfare, be it personal and *especially* Corporate. Any idea that will truly be successful *will* be successful. If a corporation wants to exploit an oil or shale resource, they can do it themselves

Yeah--they've got to go nuclear--in a big way. This time safely--like the Europeans.

This off-shore drilling business is--what you would call--a red herring. Pure election year BS. The oil companies must be laughing.

Oh don't worry, they are laughing all the way to the bank, hoping for the cheap leases, knowing the average American will never catch on what they are doing, and will believe the BS they are spouting.

That's why I like the Canadian Taxpayers Federation. Before CTF got involved, only 5% of the provincial tax revenue here in Manitoba was actually put into roads. The rest was a general slush fund.

Under a lot of very bad publicity, thanks to CTF, that ratio has increased to about 50% now. Naturally, the NDP take all the credit for it. Premier Doer was mightily cranked up when the CTF engaged in that "smear campaign" against him. Now you'd think Doer personally dreamed it up

But whatever helps keep getting him reelected in Fortress Winnipeg

Oh, haven't forgotten them, the oil companies enjoy lots of benefits from the taxpayers, all let by the politicals, cleap leases, tax breaks, subsidies, even research money for "alternative" energy, you know they are working hard on that. Hahahahaha

This whole thing is a hoax, pushed by the politics and the carrots, many Americans are falling for it, which is very sad. Nothing wrong with drilling, but it should be done with the taxpayers in mind, not the oil companies.

Exactly! Cut out all the subsidies, which the oil companies all whined about when oil was under $20 a barrel. With oil north of $100 a barrel, get rid of the subsidies.

It's criminal that oil companies can suck on the taxpayer teat while enjoying record profits. If they don't wise up soon, they had better not be surprised if folks demand a Windfall Profits Tax - personally I'm against that, but a lot of folks are hurting right now due to high energy prices

Here in Canada, first thing we have to do is abolish the Crown Corporations and put the surplus into paying down the national debt. With high oil prices, and record profits, the oil companies can now afford to shoulder the risk of exploration, drilling, and development

It will happen when pigs fly

Oh sure, at least the current minority government, Conservative, is making token debt payments. The total of all public debt, and the unfunded liabilities - think pensions and health care - is slightly over 2 trillion Canadian dollars
