You might want to switch the display off the first day or two, to avoid distractions. Don't want you bumping into my '07.

Did you happen to have the recall done that related to 2004s 'shutting down'? I don't recall the number. People surmised that Toyota suspected they were running out of gas. I have to agree as I noticed that after this work was done on my 2004, it went to '1 pip' much earlier, about 8.5 gallons used, and '1 flashing' in another ~25 miles. I fill based on MFD miles and MPG. I know mine is about 2% generous so I figure my actual MPG is about 1 MPG lower than the display shows.

A friend of mine ran out of gas and ran on electric until it would run no more, just making it to their destination. Added gas and all was well. I think the computers won't let you drain the battery to 'damage level' by driving it.

Another thread running right now on this forum says to NOT overfill the tank, that you can damage the car if you do.

I won't do that anymore now that I read the thread. I overfilled my new Prius to see how much it would hold, and when I pulled the gas nossle out a little gas shot back out at me. I learned from this forum this is because the tank is flexible and it gives, so you can overfill it and it will spit some back out on you. I figure each PIP on the gas gauge equals about 1 gallon and there are 10 pips, so if I'm down to 4 pips left for example I should be able to put in 6 gallons maybe 7. 6 is probably better. Probably if you just stop pumping in the gas when the handle shuts off you will be good.

It really is an amazingly easy car to drive and care for.

Like you I'm eagerly awaiting my Prius, and had the same worries.

After ordering the Pri I did a search to try and find out as much info as possible before getting the car. You've already found one of the best, and friendliest forums for the Prius ( if not the best). Here you'll be able to find someone who can answer almost any question you may have.

Whilst awaiting your new Prius may I suggest that you check out this link: John's Stuff - Toyota Prius User-Guide

This is a guide that is mentioned in a few of the posts (and I believe written by one of the members) and is really useful to give you a lot of basic (and not so basic) info so that on your first day you have an idea of what's happening.

As John says " Just drive it"

Now that the topic has been beaten to death, let's conclude with the single most import "Don't": Never, ever put a Green Bay Packers bumper sticker, license plate or license plate holder on a Prius! It's just wrong.

Just drive it and have fun! Put gas in it like your current car. We are all techno geeks on this site and playing with this car like is is a home computer with super modifications.

Now that post is just wrong ;) I heard the Vikings want Brett to play for them! Wouldn't that be funny...oh well - I don't need to go off on the Brett Favre soap opera!

Thanks everyone for the advice!! I was just in Texas for work for 3 days last week and ofcourse upgraded to the Prius for an extra $12.00 per day. (Who cares - the company was paying for the car!).
I have to say I was pleased! I got about 46 mpg in 100 degree weather and running the AC on auto at 72 degrees. The car only had 3,500 miles on it so it was definitely newer.
It was a little more "squirrely" on the highway - I was going about 75 - 80 on the freeway - than my Santa Fe is. But still manageable.
It was definitely different when I "pressed" the Park Button and when I turned it on and didn't hear anything.
I also noticed that the windows aren't angled as much as I'm used to - so there is a lot of wind in the car when I put the windows down...but then again, I did that on the highway at higher speeds.
I LOVE all of the storage that it has in the center console...3 times I couldn't find my phone or my wallet and here I had just put it in one of the many storage containers!
Thanks again for the advice...it should be here soon!!!
Now I'm trying to sell my Hyundai - I just listed it on Craigslist and sent emails out from work, so here's hoping!!!

I work just a couple of miles from the Viking's headquarters. About the time that the news of Favre was interested in playing for the Vikings, a very nasty thunderstom rolled through the area. During the high winds and hail we told our Packer fans in the office that this was a sign from God that he had signed with the Vikings.

The only sport I care about is F1 racing, so I usually skip the sports section of the paper, but this soap opera has been interesting.
