It has been suggested that if the oil level in your crankcase is over the full mark your miles per gallon can be affected. It is this truth or speculation?

In both of my Prius's the crankcase oil level is approximately 1/8 of an inch over the full mark. If anyone knows for sure on this issue please let me know. I personally have not heard of too much oil in the crankcase lowering miles per gallon.

    All feedback is appreciated.;)

You have not "personally" heard? But it "has been suggested"???? What the heck does that mean? Did you have to read about it and it wasn't personally whispered into your ear?

This topic has been beat to death and is all over PriusChat. A quick search will get you more information than will ever be posted in this - yet another  - oil overfill thread.

I have not used any search or advanced features since joining. I usually read posts and follow links. I will heed your advice.

If you tell me something I'm not aware of that makes you look good and helps me learn new info. Sound good? ;)

My prius crankcase is over-filled too. Darned Toyota dealer.

Any suggestions for easily & cleanly draining a half quart or so without resorting to removing the drain plug !? I was thinking about a really long straw :hungry:

I used 1/4" aquarium air-tubing (slides down the dip-stick tube) and a large irrigation syringe. A bit difficult to pull the plunger out, but it worked for a minor over-fill.

I just used a squirt bottle with a long tube. I took out 1 cup (was at full) increased mileage 2 mpg on the next day's 140 mile commute.

How much under the full mark should the oil level be? Is there anything that most of you agree on regarding this issue? Also, how does someone gain 3-4 MPG by lowering the oil level?
