I lift weights 4-5 time a week. I'm in very good shape. I have had no previous problems in vehicles in long trips. Just this one

Exactly why I ordered my leather seats with Liqua-Gel=Dr. Scholls for the butt.
I checked Prius Pro/Cons out before buying, found seats were one of the few complaints.
Seems more prospective buyers would order the Liqua-Gel option.

Then you don't need a cushion, only a wood plank, german seats are usually really hard...

well that's the thing - I had leather seats in my 330ci too and not the same problem. Obviously it was a better designed seat.

Well, I'm going to have to find some sort of gel seat cushion I guess.

    Are you serious?
I drove 2600km (1600 miles) in 36 hours including sleeping time (slept in a swag laid out in the back of the Prius) and I was fine with sheepskin seat covers.

Total journey was about 6000km (3700 miles) over 10 days and just 3 night were in motels otherwise I slept in the swag, with no ill affects.

I use a small memory foam pillow as a lumbar area support, without it
I wouldn't last five minute in the leather seats, with it I'm extremly comfortable, several nh to fl road trips, etc, it ain't the bottom it's the lack of lumbar support

Forgive the 'helpful' folks who, when you ask for a good cushion, say, "Well I dove way long trips and have no problem" (oh, well then, I guess problem solved! ) Sheesh. It's like when some Prius drivers have issues with wind sway ... folks jump on both sides ... "not me" ... "well I do" ... "not me". Or how about my favorite, "My Prius looses power on hills with ice" ... "not me ... YOU must have a problem" ... "mine too!" ... "not me" .... Then theres the other 'great' sollution ... "just buy $1,000 volvo seats, and spend another wad of cash having them custom installed". Hoy vey.

Yes, get a cushion. Google will lead you to many styles. Folks will jump on the cushion bandwagon too :D ... THIS is the best ... no ... this one! You'll have to maybe try a few. We went through about 3 styles. Once you do, the long drives will be somewhat more tolerable. We've done the 1,350 mile trip between So Cal & Montana a few times ... straight thru ... 20hours ... yuck.

    Hi lil red,

    Sorry about your aching butt.

I really think that qbee42 hit it right on the head:

It's all very idiosyncratic. What works for one or most will not work for all.

Unfortunately I think that means you'll have to keep experimenting with different things until you find the one thing (or combination) that works for you.

What works for me and my aching, sciatica stricken back and butt is one of those curved mesh lumbar seat backs that you can buy from Frye's for less than $10 or from Amazon or eBags for around $20:

    Good luck.

How long had it been since you last drove that distance? I had the same experience right after I bought my 2007 Prius (coupled with tightness in my chest) and I was sure it was because of the car. Then I took a similar trip in the big 'ol SUV I'd taken on long trips so many times before and the same thing happened. Now I think it's just a symptom of growing older and needing to take more frequent breaks. :(

 That might be funny if I didn't know of someone who was hit and killed by a person high on weed.

P.S. Your profile says you live in Florida. I hope you weren't driving cross country in that condition.

i find the cloth seat comfortible, but i have never gone more than a few hundred miles. we take the hycam to florida, 8 way adj. drivers seat, quieter, smoother, roomier. only 45 mpg but it only comes out to an extra $60. in gas. cheapest part of the trip!:)

    edmunds.com - 09 Prius comparison -

"... apparently some people are looking to spend $30k to be uncomfortable (while showing Prius driving by). We don't recommend it ...."

I guess most people somehow manage to be reasonably comfortable in their Gen2 Prius. The smart ones who didn't fall in the pit walked away without buying one.

It's a seat where you somehow have to conform to it, cause it's not going to conform much to you. Small and limited adjustments. No telescopic. such as shame because the interior room was always there for something much better.

I have to say the Prius is THE most comfortable car I have driven on a long trip. I grew up in California, and constantly made trips between LA and SF or Vegas. I always ended up with a sore lower back in my VW, or Ford or whatever I used to drive.

I just completed a 12 hour drive (NYC to Charlotte) and NEVER felt any back or butt pain! This was my second similar trip with the same results. BTW, I am 6'3" tall, about 195LBS so I am not small.

I guess different cars fit people differently!

Here in Illinois vicodin is the preferred pain reliever. My leather seats are what sold me on the Prius. Sat in lots of cars -- these were the best. Everyone has somewhat different posture and weight distribution so some will likely have issues.

How could you be comfortable at 6'3"? Top of the windshield must be very low for you causing you to duck down to see. How could your legs even be supported by the seat with the miniscule seat travel / legroom?

Dimensionally the G2 adjustments are nowhere near much better chairs found in the G3 and pretty much any other car over $20k on the market.
