The real question is who will organize it, and when to fit it in? The thought for now is Sunday morning starting and ending at the Days Inn Hotel parking lot. I was at the Milwaukee Hybrid Group meeting and they did some training they call "Drive$mart America" training. Very informative.
I wish Larry, Wayne,Hobbit or someone could video from inside the car when they are Pulse and Gliding. I would love to see it in action..I have read about it a lot, but not sure if I am doing it correct, but by those numbers they must be doing it correctly..If someone does video it please explain everything and be sure and film the energy screen .. Actually, you should get excited and here's why: Do you remember that at one time, it was thought that no human being could run a mile faster than 4:00; until someone did it. Now, sub-4:00 miles are common. If this competition has the same effect, the fuel that you say was "wasted" will end up being a net savings gain. I ran the course last evening and achieved 136 over the 16+ mile course. I was only able to manage 113 in a non-EV equipped Prius. When I got done with my car though, my SoC was only slightly lower than it was in the other car but the mpg had increased by 23 mpg.
During the event a certain song title did occur to me: "The waiting is the hardest part" ... and yes, the whole idea was to push the envelope in a setting where we could. The results speak for themselves, but ONLY for themselves and not what any of us would reasonably expect from all Prius drivers. Please don't put words/thoughts in our mouths. . We had an event down in NJ earlier in June where a long run, 150 miles or so, was taken on ordinary mid-speed county roads across the Pine Barrens flatlands. Other than slightly longer times to ramp up and down in speed, I expect I was doing maybe 5 under the limit -- 50 in the 55s, 45 in the 50s, and there was a lot of that >42 stuff going on. Nonetheless, my car came back showing 72.5 in the MFD for that run. . _H*
When I was driving to DC and back, I looked at the speed signs and realized they needed a second one just below that says: I was pleasantly surprised to find Monday afternoon traffic in downtown DC was not so bad as I'd remembered it. Also, after two and a half years of Prius driving, I was quite happy to stay in the "rush hour" creep whereas in the past I would have been looking for an opening to 'gain position.' Satellite radio and the AC worked fine and I had no problem with being patient in the crowd. Bob Wilson
i predict the average tank speeds are lower than the maximum posted ev limited for bikes and scooters here in canada (patience is virtue) i'd go but as usual too far, i highly doubt there's a driver that weighs as less than I (130 lbs) then again I don't know the area too well... but be fun to challenge other hypermilers for once, rather than someone else's anger
