Greetings all, I am interested in purchasing the Ultimate LockPick 3 but am weary of the installation. http://www.coastaletech.com claims that it is Plug-and-Play and comes with all necessary connectors. Can someone please give me more details on exactly how the device plugs in, and to where? I looked and searched pretty hard for some pics of the actual device, to no avail. I'll be wanting to hook up a video Ipod or something like that to it. Plug-and-Play to me means that I won't have to disassemble my dash or remove the screen.. Anymore information would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. --also - what is the best/easiest way to hook up my ipod nano to the current system for audio use.
I have it for an '05. If the install is the same, then there is one item that plugs in the nav DVD under the drivers seat...takes less than 2 minutes to install. There is a second part that plugs into the back of the radio and/or MFD (depending on which lockpick you get). This, in my install, requires removing the dash. I have done that many times and it is really quite easy. That portion will probably take about an hour for a first-timer.
Ok so I will have to take my dash out.. Funny how the coastal website selling this product doesn't mention that. "Plug-and-Play" installation with instructions! .. The website says it will work on a Prius w/ Nav or with only Rear backup Cam.. If I bought this and installed it.. where would I plug my Ipod video into? I know the center console has a plug for some device but i do not know what its for. In the center console under the arm rest.. little plug there..

So can someone show me what it looks like to have a video ipod installed w/ a Lockpick 3? Like, where the wires are going to and such? Just a basic overview of what is what? I can't even find a picture of the actual product.
I don't have any pictures for you...but I just got my lockpick 3 yesterday, installed it myself and tested it with my iphone. All I have to say is that this is the best $229 I've spent in awhile. I've been DYING for an aux input for my iphone ever since I bought my prius in december. Now, I can also play movies on the LCD screen with the phone. Basically what I can tell you that many people have left out is that you're given a composite and two audio inputs (one for the left channel, one for the right channel) that stem from the lockpick wires. They are RCA jacks, which are used by pretty much everything out there. Anything that has audio or video output can be used with the lockpick. So you don't have to worry about your iphone, ipod, playstation 3, etc. working with it. I am sure that if you could find an RGB or DVI to composite converter or switch, you could even hook a computer up to the screen. I'm telling you, when installed properly, you basically don't even know the mod is there and the end result is awesome. I can't believe I've waited this long to get one of these. By the way, like others have been mentioning, coastaletech's customer service is absolutely horrible. I e-mailed them about 3 times, never got a single response. This was over the span of the past month. Yet, the day after I ordered a lockpick on impulse, I got an e-mail saying my item had been shipped. I've never seen a business run this way before. So you are warned...I wouldn't even bother contacting them at all.
By the way, I only have a basic model Prius (2008). So I cannot vouch for the bluetooth functionality or the camera option on the lockpick. And, of course, the extra nav-while-in-motion option on the $299 lockpick version. I didn't get that more expensive version since I only have the base model prius.
I just got my base 2008 model (woo hoo!) and was wondering if the Lockpick 3 allowed for the dvd to be played while the car was in motion. I kind of assumed that's what everyone was doing, but I couldn't find where it was specifically stated. Didn't want to blow $230 bucks to watch dvd's at stoplights or in the parking lot....
I too would like to know this. Can someone with Lockpick 3 answer this question since I can't find it anywhere. Can you play videos while in motion with just the installation of lockpick 3?
I have questions as well ... I have a Pkg #6 so I have the Navigation in my car. Does the basic Lockpick 3 allow you to just plug into the DVD below the driver's seat and do everything or only certain things? Does it ONLY unlock the NAV while moving function if you do plug and play while needed to install behind the radio, etc to play a video or use bluetooth functions? Sorry, I am just kind of confused by all of it.
OK, here's what I *know* from installing the Ultimate Lockpick 3 on my 2008 Pkg6. It comes with the 'basic lockpick' mod package which is indeed installed on the unit under the front seat and only unlocks the NAV on the fly functions. A 45 second install except that you have to dress the wires so that the connectors will line up and the mod package will sit neatly in front of the unit. The 'ultimate lockpick 3' is another mod package that installs in line the on the MFD itself. It requires pulling the dash apart which at first seems to be a horrific task but in actuality is pretty simple if you follow the instructions sent with the kit. Included with the kit are 2 wiring harnesses. One is a video in cable which plugs in line to the MFD; the other is an audio in which is supposed to hook into the radio/cd changer below the mfd. I cheated, I already had the DICE module for my iPod installed so I just put the audio in harness in line with that. At any rate, that mod package unlocks the bluetooth functions and enables the addition of a portable dvd player, an iPod or other audio/video device that will play video on the mfd and audio through the sound system. I hooked up a Phillips DCP851 portable dvd player and it works great. My DICE still functions as it should.
