Yep - what they said. I was actually one of the first 100 or so Tesla reservation holders (put my deposit down 2 years ago). Tesla kept delaying and delaying, and then my wife had a baby, so I finally gave up (no room for 3 in the Roadster) and got my rather large deposit back. I had even installed a solar system on my house for my electric car. When I saw Hymotion finally announce their Plug-In Prius, I went out and got a Prius and reserved my Hymotion spot.

If someone ever comes out with an electric car we can actually buy I will be in line again (maybe the Tesla White Star??). There is a company doing Saturn Sky electric conversions - but it looks like those are only available in the midwest for now - AMP Motorworks - (Advanved Mechanical Products) -The 100 percent electric car

I can't believe how friggin long it is taking to get a real electric car to market.

By the way, Tesla looked at hub motors at one point and set the idea aside. One of the reasons was pointed out above - they did not think they could get them DOT certified without friction brakes.

Yeah, I'm gonna sound all snotty, but ... *yawn*. This has been on my "EVs Available" page for two years now. Under "prototype." Nobody has ever verified the performance claims. Nobody knows if it has even driven under its own power. If you had something this great, wouldn't you figure out a way to video tape it at least a little?

i think that this car probably ended up costing more than 100K, maybe double.

batteries alone must be tens of thousands of dollars + motors + electronics + extras + time invested.

I remember reading something about hybrid concepts one time. The idea was that instead of one ICE and drivetrain like most cars have now, each wheel would have an electric motor. A battery would power the motors and a gasoline engine (not connected to the wheels) would just recharge the battery when needed.

Does anybody know where I can find this article again?
