I'm really wanting a Sirius set up in my Prius. Got a couple questions:

    1. Advice on mounting/wiring the external antenna?
    2. Any thoughts at all about the different Sirius hardware models? Sirius vs. XM (hey, I want to hear Howard, so I'm kinda leaning towards Sirius, but willing to listen)

any thoughts or experiences with this service?

I really love Sirius.....specifically because of Howard Stern. Have had Sirius since before Howard started there. I know the FCC is to make a ruling on the merger between XM and Sirius but the companies said Howard would be available on the merged company, both types of hardware, once the systems are merged - if that happens while Howard is still working.

I really like having the unit that works with the MFD and steering wheel buttons to control it, but miss the scrolling PDT information from my older portable units.

The look of the 'built in' systems are perfect because it is seamless and no extra stuff hanging around..but some of the add on units do offer a few more features.

I recently installed this unit in my Prius. It was a relatively easy install and it works flawlessly with the touch screen.

I just ran the antenna wire behind the dash, down the passenger kick plate, under the rubber/plastic trim along the floor, through the cargo/seat pass, under the carpet mat, and then along the rubber trunk seals until it reached the roof. You can see a little bit of wire peeking out for a few inches in the cargo area where it jumps from the carpet to the plastic, but it was easier than removing the headliner to feed it through the AM/FM antenna hole.

The Sirius radio kit available here on PriusChat is an even better deal as it's from Toyota, comes with 3 months free, and no activation fee. From what I understand though, the end result with any one of these integrated kits is the same.

I have an S50, my wife has a sportster. They both work great although the S50 can be a little moddy at times if you don't let it shut down before pulling it out of the dock.

I put the antenna on the roof under a sharkfin. I pulled back the headliner to expose the antenna mounting bolt, removed that to free the antenna, tuck the sirius antenna right in front of the AM/FM antenna, put a sharkfin over the whole thing, no issues at all. Very clean.

We got the Sirius unit through the website here and had the dealer install it. I had bought the Sirius unit before for our other car because hubby is a big Stern fan, and now I get to listen too.

The merger between Sirius and XM is still in the works, but when it finally gets approved (do you realize this merger is taking longer than AIRLINE or OIL COMPANY mergers because the FCC hates Howard???) then you won't have to make that choice- either unit should receive all the channels..

I installed Sirius in my 2005, later removed it and installed it in my 2007. The DVD that came with the unit made installation methodical and error-free. The unit is hidden and function is seamless as part of the MFD. I installed the Sirius antenna directly behind the existing antenna. Works excellent!

How much did the dealer charge you to install it?

The deal between XM and Sirius is taking way too much time for government approval. Like I really need the government to worry about something like a radio station....I can turn it off if I don't like it. I can also turn it down if it is too loud. Amazing ...every radio has tuner, volume, and power buttons.

But they approve big oil mergers quickly ...and we are paying record prices for fuel.

They approve drugs quickly ....and we are paying more for prescriptions then ever and have far too many complications and deaths.

They approve insurance mergers ...and we pay record fees for insurance.

and they approve banking mergers ..and we pay record fees and interest.

But with all those problems... we really need protection from someone talking on the radio..the only thing we can control...with those funny buttons we have.

    - Sorry...just had to vent on the soap box for a moment - I am tired of politicians and the government doing things to appear like they are helping when all they are doing is hurting us.

Sirius sportster 5 here (gotta love Howard Stern and Octane 20!)

Using the TOY-SC1+SCVDOC1 aftermarket kit from tss-radio.com
-this allows interface with my Prii (OEM style - through mfd) while still offering mobility if/when I wish to use my sportster on a different player.
I'm assuming either brand will be good after the merger, but until then I needed my Stern listening!

OH, and here's a good PC link for the antenna. This thread examples placing it in the spoiler, but there are good instructions/pictures on hiding the wire which can be used for the roof magnet too.

I installed the TOYSC1 Tuner and SCC1 interface (both can be ordered online and are easy to install) in my Prius a couple of months ago. It's been great.

Both units are hidden between the upper and lower glove boxes, and are directly controlled through the touch screen.

I hid the antenna in the rear spoiler (easy if you have a Dremel) and it's completely hidden. I highly recommend this option, as the spoiler is plastic and won't interfere with signal reception.

If you have questions, send me a PM. So far I've been very pleased with Sirius and with the hidden aspect of this install.

I have an Audiovox(SIR-PNP3) Sirius with a car kit. Can I use this with a TOYSC1? If not is there a car kit allowing me to do this?

I know the SCVDOC1 kit will not work with my Audiovox. I am wishing there is some sort of adapter kit out there so I can use it with the TOY-SC1. I realized I had this Audiovox in the closet (it was used in a vehicle I no longer own), so I was thinking maybe there is a way I could get it working in my Prius and be controlled through the MFD. I hate to think I have to purchase another Sirius tuner.

In this radio shack day and age, there's usually an adapter that will make anything work! :p
Call or e-mail TSS, as they have TONS of adapters for this type of need.
--just for the record. I have no affiliation with them other than satisfactory customer service and recommendations from me because of it.

Otherwise you may find luck posting this question in the audio section of PC

I looked over the TSS site and don't see any type of adapter for my Audiovox. I am thinking the unit itself just doesn't have the required internal connections for the TOY-SC1. My only other option then is to use the Audiovox Sirius with its own car adapter kit, where it would wirelessly transmit over the Prius FM radio.

I'm assuming that the adaptor allows you to plug your sirius into the Auxillary port of the car stereo, located in the tray underneath the middle arm rest?

I've heard people complain that the portable Sirius work imperfectly when trying to tie them to an FM signal
