Seems to me that I have seen many more Prius cars lately. Most, I am sorry to say, appear that they have everything figured out. Sort of like the Passat and Saturn owners! It would be nice if Prius owners waved like I do. Never a response wave as they have no idea what I am doing. I only have been approached at my business when they asked how I like my car. Some have bought based on this and some have been told there is a 6 month wait! Even though I am pleased with the gas mileage I still don't like the amount I need to pay for my 8 gallons. I am very pleased with my Prius!
Geez! I'm sorry I didn't wave. When I'm in my car, I'm in my own little world. I see cars, but not the people in them. There aren't many prius' in my little town. 2 or 3 probably. But I visited St. Louis this weekend and saw a bunch. There were 3 living on my brother's street.
Prius is becoming less of a cult car and more of a money saving car, IMO. I was ignoring the Prius, partly because it was a cult car. When I reluctantly calculated it would save me money in the long run (total cost of ownershio) over a new Corolla, Civic or Civic Hybrid, I stopped ignoring the Prius, learned to love it's technology, utility and potential, as well as the looks from certain angles, and I bought a black one... Perhaps the wave percentage is higher for 2001-2007 models. Just ignore the 2008's
I wave here and there. I am reminded of this thread... http://priuschat.com/forums/prius-main-forum/35345-too-presumptive-wave-your-fellow-prius-owner.html
I live in Los Angeles. If I waved at every Prius owner I saw, I'd have to wave 2 or 3 times at every stop light. An aquantance of mine who has the 2nd Gen tells me back in the early days, it was customary to give the double pistol finger point with a smile. Somewhat dorkier than the exotic sports car driver's thumbs up. The other week, some SUV driver asked me while gassing up if I could really get 40 mpg. I don't think he believed me when I mentioned I usually get 50 without trying too hard.
That is what I am talking about with a wave or smile or some sort of recognition. One day I saw a jeep wrangler, open top half, wave like a motorcycle for about 10 miles. It was that arm down low type of wave. Never saw anyone wave in return! Yes we are in our own world most of the time, make up, texting, writing, reading the paper and on and on. I am just always curious as to who is driving the Prius. Seems across the board as far as Prius owners now. A lot of the buyers now just want to save money on gas as we all do but then there are those, like us, that get into the car and what it is all about and how it can be better. By the way where can I get the Priuschat.com sticker for my car. Is it in the accessory shop? Thanks
Yeah they have a set you can buy. PriusChat Shop : Prius Hybrid Decal Set - Black [Decal-Black] - $25.00$22.50
There are not too many of us in our suburb, I hardly see any Prius except mine.. so I am looking to wave to someone the few Prius drivers I have seen are older women, older than 65 and are not even looking to wave to anyone lest they even know why I would be waving at them..
I think he was talking about this decal not the ones you linked: :wave::wave::wave::wave: I always wave!!
I drive in the Chicago area and see plenty of Prii! Mostly on the toll roads though. I also see all sexes and ages.
You wave because you have something in common with the other Prius driver. You are smarter than everybody else and you are not affraid to take a chance on uncommon technology. You are both above the crowd.
What is the problem exactly with Passat owners? I drive one now (waiting for my Prius) and I am always interested in other VW's and happy to give a nod and a wave. The Prii I just follow around in envy. The drivers don't seem too disturbed.
The Chicks-who-drive-whatever_color_it_is-Prii will think you are trying to pick them up!! Plus your copilot wife might break some of your ribs.
