I'm curious about people's reasonings/sentiments towards leather interiors. It seems quite a few people have chosen the leather option! I know the average Prius owner isn't a crazy environmentalist or a vegetarian but I think there's a hint of that kind of mentality in many. So who else would not chose to have a leather interior in their vehicle and for those that have it was it a decision that weighed in your mind? - That's what I'm curious about. A nice quality fake/pseudo leather interior option in cars would be really neat IMO
ditto "canesfan". Its much easier to clean and looks a lot nicer. besides i wanted the fully loaded stock prius.
And for use as adaptive managment tools for people like me who work with ranchers in grassland conservation.
the leather is only available on the expensive package, my guess is that most prius buyers (like myself) can't afford it but wish they had it
I'll go along with all those reasons. Fabric seats don't seem to hold up well for me, guess I'm a bit rough when I get in and out of the car as they all seem to wear out on the upper most section, closest to the door. PETA: People Eating Tasty Animals.
Agreed. Those are also my reasons. However, the same holds true for a synthetic leather. I had synthetic "leather" in a 2002 Audi A4, and loved it. It felt, and acted just like real leather .... in fact, even better. That would be a nice option for the Prius also. ... Brad
Leather gives my back better support, it smells better, wears better and looks better. I don't think I could do the Prius in Toyota cloth. ZC1
This is my sixth Toyota, and the first that I have purchased with leather. The non-leather fabric that Toyota offers on the Prius feels and looks really weird to me... kind of like 'hairy felt', and is nothing like the fabric I've had in my 4Runner, Tacoma or Tundra. When I saw the leather, I was hooked! To me it was definitely worth the extra cash.
Aw I'm disappointed the environmentalism stops when it comes to leather comfort! though i dont mind the fabric seats (though I don't know if all of you that have posted hold the environmental impacts of the prius higher than the gas savings etc)
I use sheepskins over leather or fabric, so it makes no difference to me. Most leather in car seats these days seems to be thin and vinyl-like. Not the thick, plush leather in good sofas or the older cars.
WOW!! I didn't know cows are endangered. Does this mean I have to buy cotton covers? Wait-it takes chemicals to kill boil weavels, fertilizers, gas(diesel) for tractors, man my head is hurting.....
In Canada the leather option with heated seats was not available, but our dealership found someone that would retro-fit for them - that sealed the deal for us. I love the leather seats and my wife really loves the heated seats, especially during our bitterly cold winters here. Buck
I'm planning to swap out the leather in my Prius soon. I haven't decided between harp seal pelts, California condor feathers, or right whale skin.
