    Hi All,

Well, I've had my Prius for 2 weeks now. Still can't get over how much I love it AND the fact that I don't miss the power of my old Trans-Am at all!

Anyway - I had to take the Prius in to the dealer today for it's scheduled additions (Protectant Stuff and Lowjack). (Don't lecture me, I ALWAYS get Lojack. I know that Prii are hard to steal, but anyway...)

The nice dealer gave me a corolla to use FREE since my Prius has to be there a day (my work schedule - I couldn't wait for it and had to do a night dropoff).

Nice of the dealer to let me use the corolla free - And I suppose it's an ok little car - but I have to tell you - it's NO Prius. I think I've been spoiled. It's like going back to a scratched up LP after being subjected to perfect digital CD's.....

I had a Camry V6 loaner once (when they scratched my '04 Red"). The Camry felt like a big puffy balloon on the road. Light and twitchy handling. Felt like it needed a bag of potatoes in the trunk to give it more stability. I noticed the lack of torque (compared to the Prius) once it was in "top gear", and the big dash "in your face". What can I say? THey're both Toyota's and well built, but nothing on the road compares to my Red "princess".

i went from a corolla to my Prius... granted my corolla was an older model, but there is no comparison. it simply has to do with the fact that the Prius has too many new and advanced features that the corolla simply didnt have

Corolla is a good choice for a car for your children going to college, but not for a person who is interested in the environment and gas saving.

The corolla gets very good gas mileage....even better if driven reasonably. Emissions will be a problem for most non hybrid vehicles, but can be minimized by driver behavior (drive reasonably, combine trips, drive when necessary, keep tires well inflated, etc).

The corolla is a good car for college students, Low cost of ownership (low purchase cost, low cost to maintain, good gas mileage, low insurance)with high reliability. Absolutely nothing wrong with any of those things. A much better choice than a V8 Mustang or a Hemi anything....(cool cars, testosterone pleasing performance, but maybe not the best choice for low cost of ownership, and high reliability).

Had i not gotten the Prius, i would probably be in a Corolla. One of my friends has a 1998 Mustang GT that just eats gas and being red, tickets. I told him to look into a Corolla hell even the S or XRS (XRS comes with the Camry 4 cylidner making 158 hp) he said its too girly....and wants to get an 03-04 Cobra....?

Well better than when I had a warranty issue and the dealer loaner was a Chevy Silverado crew cab!!!!!! I used more gas in 3 days than two weeks with the Prius. I almost made a claim for the additional money spent on gas. This happend when gas was 2.25, I would probably make the claim if it happend today.

You drank the Kool Aid. A V-6 Camry has around 260 horsepower and does 0-60 in 6.7 seconds, a full THREE SECONDS faster than the Prius. It will absolutely smoke a Prius in ANY acceleration contest, and keep up with a BMW 330i (in a straight line).

You're deluded, and the numbers prove it.

Read the date, it's 2005. That would be 210hp (194hp under the new rating) and a 0-60 time of about 8.2 secs.

"You drank the Kool-Aid" is an American expression meaning "you are so thoroughly indoctrinated that you'll believe or do anything". It originated with a mass suicide which used in part cyanide mixed into an instant beverage. See

I was a long time Corolla owner and loved them. If my last one hadn't been in an accident I'd still be driving it. Maybe things do happen for a reason since I absolutely adore my Pri!

Well, my wife and I have both a 2008 Prius (which replaced a 1994 Corolla) and a 1999 Corolla. The Corolla has been delegated to 2nd car status, used mostly for short trips by my wife to work and our kid's school. The Corolla is boring, utilitarian car, but has been extremely reliable, and gets the job done. What amazes me is that even though the Prius is bigger, quieter and more comfortable, it still smokes the Corolla in gas mileage. With my 10 mile each way commute, I figure I use about 3 gal. a week in the Prius, vs. about 2.5 gal. a week in the Corolla, even though it is driven twice as many miles! We usually go to my in-laws vacation home about 100 miles from our house. I figure about 4 gal round trip in the Prius (48-50 mpg), vs. 5.5 gal (35 mpg highway) in the Corolla. 4 gal * $3.80 = $15.20. $15.20 divided by 5.5 gal in the Corolla = $2.76 per gallon, which is about what gas was last year. So I'm paying the same amount for gas for the same trip as last year! Imagine the price difference compared to a mid-size car, not to mention an SUV! I think if more people tried a Prius (and if the Prius had a more comfortable front seat!), they'd get more respect!

My bad. I should have checked the date. I guess that's why some forums have rules against bumping old threads.

heh. np. We're a little more lenient here and not too picky about thread revivals.

The 2008-2009 Camry SE V-6 is a hot car, thought about getting one instead of the Prius, but then came to my senses, although I like to lust for them in traffic...

Before buying, I considered the "cost of ownership" of a Corolla vs a Prius. The Corolla initially cost $4,000 less with the $787 tax return already subtracted.

With the gas prices of 15 months ago the Prius seemed a bigger, better, safer car that would be about $1,000k more expensive over 5 years.

Given the current gas price rises and given what the increased demand has done on the used Prius prices, I have been lucky with that calculation.

I have to say that I would prefer a Solara convertible over both...
