I'm looking to purchase the Prius next year when it comes out but was just wondering if Toyota will also apply the newer 3rd generation on other Toyota cars like the Camry Hybrid.... which may allow it to get 40+ mpg ?

If so any ideas as to when?

    Most likely, yes.

When? Whenever they get redesigned will be the earliest.
So for the Camry, it'll be 2012 MY and HiHy the 2013 MY (unless they do another 7 year cycle on the Highlander which I doubt they will)

:welcome: Welcome to PriusChat, rudymeister! Do I assume correctly that you're talking about a plug-in Prius? Talk of generations gets confusing depending on if you count the Japanese Prius as the first generation. Toyota has said they will have hybrids throughout their product line, eventually. I know a few people would like the HSD Estima/Sienna here in the US now!

I'd like to see the Prius drivetrain in the Corolla now; actually I would like to have the Camry HSD in the Corolla now. That'd be fast and frugal, right?

Well frankly, as much as I like the Prius, I kinda like the Camry more but 33mpg is not forward thinking enough for me when gas prices today hit $3.50

I feel that the next generation of Prius, plug in or not, will get the Prius to 60+ while the Camry will probably do around 40+.... 40+ mpg is acceptable IMO, for a more real car feel.
But how long must I wait for the Camry to get to 40+mpg? and when it does, there'll probably be a mad rush of people panicking to get one because the gas prices will be around 5 bucks! Then we'll be force to pay a premium to get one.

33mpg? Is that the new EPA rating? In Canada, it's rated better than a Yaris! (both city, highway and combined). That's forward thinking imo.

Yes the current rating is 33 city and 34 highway.

Last year or the year before, it was around 39mpg then the EPA went back and recalculated the formula and came out with 33/34 for the Camry Hybrids

Ouch! But then again, more people can say they beat the EPA! heh.

We have little issue hitting 6L/100km (rated at 5.7L/100km) just hearing from owners so maybe it's just the way the US is laid out? (e.g. all highways and stuff)
