Paint damaged

Yep !! toyota paint is way much fragile than vw one...

 

Are they on the hood? I've heard (and it makes logical sense) that because the hood is more sloped than most cars, it attracts more rocks. But I think most new cars have thinner paint than they used to. Especially the metallics, they always seem to chip and scratch if you look at them crosseyed.

 

I live in Florida where we have love bug season. The hood gets covered with them. I was traveling a lot and didn't wash them off for about 3 weeks. The bug juice ate right through the paint and has created a mess. The Toyota dealer acknowledges that they've received other complaints about this. Detailing, scrapping, nothing helps.

I have other cars and trucks and never had this problem before.

I'll probably just get the hood painted and be much more careful. Treat it like a baby rather than a vehicle.

 

Don't follow so close. I give a little more space between my car and the one in front. It has reduced the paint chipping dramatically.

 

Have you lost all paint or the top coat? I don't know much about this, but it could be that your clear coat is scratched and could be repaired without painting.

Comments from those in the know? I've had several scratches show up on my car from relatively light "hits" and am wondering if the fix is simply achieved through polishing or buffing.

 

Scrapping the car is a bit drastic. The Prius is a scratch magnet and the white primer really shows. I installed all of the VentureShield film and would shrink wrap the car if I could. Meguire's ScratchX, Toyota's touchup pen, and some alcohol IMO do an OK job.

 

I want to be nice here, but this answer I found to be a bit silly. Of course... following other vehicles has SOMETHING to do with it. I don't know where you drive, but my commute is 98% on the interstate, and short of driving at 3AM, you can't get far enough away from a spray of salt and sand. I live in Wisconsin and we have this season called WINTER (actually it's half the frickin' year). I bought my Prius last September and this winter was HARSH on my car. You just won't believe the hood. I'm really pissed about this, and don't know what to do. The number of pock marks is astronomical. I'm thinking I'm going to have to have it refinished - it's that BAD.

So, does anyone have advice for me on this? Do I have to have the Toyota dealer shop do it? Even if I have it done, it's just going to do it again. I don't want a bra - I did that on a Trans Am ('84) once. It looked cool and all, but it destroyed the paint underneath it, so I am left wondering why do it? I know there's more/newer technology now, but it just is common sense that any bra is going to damage the paint under it.

If anyone has suggestions for me, I'd certainly appreciate it.

After you get the hood painted get a hood deflector. Or save yourself a few more problems and get a deflector now. Prius paint SUCKS! I actually thought about getting my hood rhino-lined. (like the spray on bed liners for pickups) they have color matching spray-on liners now. Again Prius paint SUCKS!. Get a deflector. I like to say Prius paint SUCKS! a lot in order for people doing searches on the paint can find these posts.

I have saved 6 more dings and scratches after only three days from the installation of the deflector
