So I have finally used a CD in my car, previously I've been using my iPod in the AUX port. I bought two new discs and only one shows Band Name and Song info, but doesnt show a track list. The second CD doesn't show any infor but does show a track list (Tract 1, Track 2 etc, very helpful that).
Is this a known problem, will it only display certain CDs?
I went back and took some older CDs and none of them display any information.
    Is this a known problem?

    Thanks
    dave

Were these MP3 CDs or audio CDs? Were you moving or standing still?

It all depends on the CD. Some are written with the CD-TEXT built-in, but others you would do better to just copy them using your computer and have the burning software set to write CD-TEXT to the new CD.

The Prius blanks out most CD information while the car is in motion, just as it blanks out many of the navigation functions. So you'll only be able to navigate in folders or through a songlist while the car is stopped.

Dumbest feature of the car, imo.

Still searching for a hack to it.

My 08 Prius also shows no track, song information on CDs. It also shows nothing with the IPOD plugged into the AUX port. I thought I would be able to navigate the IPOD on the touch screen - but I have to use the acutal IPOD screen - is that right?

Be nice - this is my first post......newbie!

If you are plugged into the AUX port you have to use the controls on the ipod. How could the MFD control the ipod over an audio cable?

There are after-market options for ipod control. Consider one of these if it is important to you.

The hack is to cut the speed sensor wire and install a switch. When Off, the car thinks it's stopped. This works for the BT and stereo, not the NAV (that's another wire).

Does that wire do anything else?

I also would be worried about voiding the warranty.

Yes, while it's switched to Off, the wheels won't turn on the Energy Screen and you'll lose information on the 5-minute bars on the Consumption Screen. Let me expand on that. If you turn it off for, say, 30 seconds and turn it back on, nothing will happen as the car thinks you've stopped for 30 seconds. If you turn it off for 5 minutes the bars will show a gap there, just as if you were sitting in a parking lot with the power on for 5 minutes.

You can see the procedure at Prius Speed Wire.
What I did was install a push-on/push-off button. It's used very rarely. This is what it looks like:

Just wanted to say thanks for the detailed info and pictures. I cut the wire this morning and left it that way without a switch. I don't think I'll miss the wheels turning or 5 min. consumption bars. I also left the speaker disconnected. The stereo imaging is much better. More is not always better. Once again, thanks!
