Few Prius owners are aware that the tires on the Energy Monitor screen of their Multifunction Display should be rotated annually to equalize wear. A front to back rotation pattern is recommended.

To help owners to remember to perform this task, Toyota suggests that the tires be rotated every April 1st.

Are you sure? I recall a thread where an X pattern was recommended. One poster had his factory warranty voided by using a front to back pattern.

I'll have to get on that right away.

On a different note (slightly related), where is the option to set the reference tire pressure for the TPMS? I scrolled through the various menus on the MFD for a couple of minutes and couldn't find it. Don't have the owner's manual handy.

Yeah, so why are we being told this on March 31st?

The front to back pattern is what is shown in the Prius owner's manual, contrary to x-pattern that the Rubber and Tire Manufacturers Association recommends. That may be way the tire warrantee was denied. Someone should write to Toyota to get that cleared up.

Is the front to back pattern because those tires are directional and the Integrities that come stock on the car are not. Hmmm, I wonder if we should follow the manual or the tire expert's opinion on this one????

I think this service is included in the 90k mile maintenance package too. Make sure your dealer does it for you...LOL!:)

Thanks for the reminder. I rotate my tires on all my vehicles every other oil-change, seems to work out fine.

However, the MFD wheels are very special. Not only do they spin for a second or so after the car stops but they are staggered, with the near side wheels using a five spoke design and the far side wheels being a four spoke design. (I wonder if that's the same on right hand drive versions?) Therefor, be sure to not use X pattern when rotating the MFD wheels, you could really screw up the stagger.

Assuming this isn't just another silly MFD question, there is a button below the steering wheel that resets the TPMS to the current tire pressures. It's on the same bezel that holds the SKS defeat switch.

On par with the question of "Does a tree make a noise if it falls in the forest and no one hears it..." Do the MFD tires experience treadwear if I keep it on the energy screen?:)

Laugh all you guys want, but the op gave good advice. Just make sure to check the muffler bearings and turn signal fluid while you are at it.

After four years of not rotating the MFD tires, they are starting to show some uneven wear.

Can anyone recommend a good replacement MFD tire? And how would a different tire affect my mileage?

There should be a reset button under the dash (below the steering column). There should be a button to turn off the Smart Key System and one to reset the TPMS.

I overinflated my tires on the MFD and I had one go flat. I just can't figure out where the jack is?

I can't believe you went four years with those crappy OEM MFD tires. My MFD got stuck every time it snowed until I updated the tires.

The need to rotate tires is a myth. Mine rotate evey time I move the car. And yes, the MFD tires do look better with trim rings off.
