Good job, Sam. I wasn't sure if you have tried posting a location yet so forgive me for the next sentence if you have. Make sure you don't use the Googlemaps link to the specific maps page or anything that shows your search criteria. I usually just take a screen shot, crop it, and then compress it.

Ohhh...sorry. Didn't know I was supposed to do more than that. Never been in this thread before Kuwait city. Just opened it to see what it was about. Okay, let me find a location and I will do what Jack said. Bare with me...

I didn't find it through Google maps. I found it by searching for Middle East water towers...

 

Hot damn! It's working already. I was only thinking of getting a dog. (See men in a Prius thread) :rofl:

 

I wasn't going to touch that one! I especially wanted to stay away from the part that went "...do what Jack said" followed by "Bare with me."

I was briefly stripped of my dignity, but I unveiled my google image on the page before this one (barely - it's the last one on that page).

 

OK, Naptownprius set a bad example and posted a picture instead of a Googlemaps image. Curiously, if you look hard enough at the image he posted you might see him in it.

Sam, can you find your same image using Googlemaps? If you tell me where it is I will post it for you........

I just don't know how, I guess. I went to google maps and searched for "famous landmarks," but it was giving me restaurants and shops with those words in their names. I searched images for "famous landmarks" and that is how I found my image. I copied it because I didn't want to give away its location (like Jack66 instructed). Apparently, I did it all wrong. It's just un-bare-able to be such a dufus...

But, yeah, Jack, I can find my image...

I don't think your location is Venice but here is an example of finding a familiar piece of Venice on Googlemaps. Then you can give a hint that drives everyone crazy like saying the merchant wanted his pound of flesh in this place (a bookish hint). You could say something like"Water, water everywhere...." Maybe something completely silly like, "I saw the movie Bambi today -- my boyfriend looked at the screen, licked his lips and said Ven......"

Oh, I left the search name in the picture as an example of what not to do.

The picture isn't loading so I will load it later.

 

I'm supposed to use the satellite imaging. Got it now.

It is really simple and part of the fun to find a place for the scavenger hunt. Try to pick a place that will have some visual clues or unique features that people can recognize with few or no hints. As you can see from my previous post the place can even make the hints interesting.

Open Googlemaps and find your place of interest. Make sure the image resolution is OK. I wanted to show Wake Island the other day and I had some great hints lined up but the image reolution was too grainy and I picked Iwo Jima instead.

I then take a screenshot, crop it, save it as a JPEG image, and upload it to PC. Some of the other folks use links to picture websites to keep the uploaded image size small but I haven't tried it yet.
