    Hi all,

I just got my new Prius yesterday and, of course, I love it. I was a little disappointed, though, when I realized it didn't come with the luggage cover for the back. I really want to get one, but it is extremely expensive at the dealership ($350+). I checked Ebay and there are none there. Don't know of another place to look for it. Any suggestions?

Call the dealer and ask if they forgot it? assuming it was on the list...

    Sam,

You bought a Prius with option package 2, so the tonneau cover was supposed to be included. It's possible that it's stored away in the rear compartment where the spare tire is (there's actually a slot cubby there specifically for the cover). If it's not there, then insist on getting it from your dealer. Give your dealer a lot of heck if necessary.

BTW, if necessary, and as you know, you can buy it on eBay for a lot less. I know you checked eBay and didn't find any listed. But they are definitely listed frequently from time to time, e.g., there's one there now:

Sam the luggage cover is a STANDARD option on all 2008's. Go claim yours at your Dealership.

It's standard only if you get any of the numbered option packages or the Touring Edition. But Sam is OK there because he got option package 2; so yes, it's either hidden in the trunk cavity or Sam should claim his from the dealer.

I called the dealership today and I was told it does not come with my package. He also told me I'm not a package 2, that I'm "1220." Mine was the only one of its kind in all of the three dealerships I visited. It was in my price range. Believe me, I'm not complaining - very, VERY pleased with the car. The only thing that has disappointed me at all, so far, is that I didn't get the luggage cover. I think it is a neat gadget that I want on the car.

I'd like to just buy one, but it doesn't appear I will be able to without purchasing directly from a Toyota dealer. cha-CHING!! Guess I'll have to wait a little while.

Thanks for all your input, as usual.

I don't know what "1220" means. Unless you got the absolute base 2008 Prius (do you have pockets on the back of your front seats? if you do, then you don't have the base 2008 Prius and should have gotten the cover).

Anyway, as I said above, you have to check eBay periodically for covers. They're there almost all the time. You have to be flexible in search terms, e.g., if you search "Prius Cover", you'll see that there's a cover available now right here:

But before you buy it, make sure that there are slots behind your rear seats to drop the ends of the cover into.

I've been on this site for 2.5 years and I've never heard of a package "1220." Is this a Southeast Toyota Dealer thing? (I know they're wacky in some ways)

I could be wrong, but I think that the only one that didn't come with the cover is a non-touring "Base" model. Do you still have your window sticker? Does it say that it's supposed to come with a luggage cover (or "tonneau cover," if you want to be fancy)?

I'm not saying that your salesdrone is necessarily full of it, but it's sort of the default state for a lot of them.

So you got the base Prius without cruise, seatback pockets, tonneau cover or trim rings?

That's the one. Salesman calls it a "1220." I will search for the cover by that name. Thanks.

    Hi Sam,

I'm thoroughly confused. There's no need to search for a cover. I already posted twice above that there's a cover available on eBay right now and I linked the eBay page for you. Here's the link again (just click on it, and the eBay page with the available gray cargo cover should open up):

eBay Motors: toyota prius rear cargo cover liner brand new NR (item 350033075749 end time Mar-14-08 20:28:08 PDT)

    Anyway, good luck.

There may be a number of 'dealer-type' equipment levels of the 2008 Prius. Ex: My 2008 was described as an "economy" package, placing it somewhere in between levels 1 & 2.

An advantage is that is was right off the lot, and (surprisingly), I drove it home 4 hours after I walked into he dealer.

But, I had the same disadvantage as Rochester -- no 'tonneau' cover for luggage area. Thanks for the tip, Boo, looks like Ebay may have some good bargains on this item. ;)

Thanks for the info. I shopped around for the best price, for the Prius I could afford. I was looking at used ones, but they were not much less than the new one I just bought. I figured I might as well get the new car with the warranty. I didn't know anything about all the different packages, but it's good to know what all that means. As usual, I really appreciate the info.

I bought the one you sent me the link to, Tom. I should get it in a few days. $104 total - beats $350 from the dealer and it's brand new!

Just curious, Sam, does your Prius have the back-up camera? Do you still have the window sticker? I always save mine for future reference. My reason for asking is that I've been told by a semi-reliable source that there are no base models of the '08 Prius to be had in the US, and while I realize that he could be mistaken or perhaps a few made it here, I have been under the impression that a #2 was the most minimal option package that you could find in this country?
