Yuck in deed. Mice and maggots, too dirty while sober. That's what's great about two-buck-chuck. For mice, it comes in a single serving container :D

Dang, don'cha hate it when there's parts left over? The top end of the thingy in the picture is what hooks on the glove box, no tools required. I would have left the other end (the bottom in your picture, with two holes) attached to the car, myself, but you didn't know that. Isn't learning from experience fun? If it's any consolation, cyber, I still like bicycles better, too.

Snap barrel part to car, install glove box and let hang on hinges, extend arm from barrel and raise glove box to meet arm and snap on glove box. Extending the arm is the easiest way to reassemble.

Now I have to deal with trying to get the nut shells and nest remains out of the bottom of the fan box "thingy" :p There seems no easy way without cutting away some of the plastic grilling.

OMG - Don't tell me you REMOVED the mice. Whey do you think the Prius is called a hybrid. The mice are integral to the mouse-drive regeneration unit (MDRU). That's not a cabin air filter - that was the hybrid mouse box savings unit. You've been had by other's on this board by encouraging you to remove one of the most important features of the car! Now you're really gonna have problems and your mileage will be significantly reduced. You also probably voided the warranty by removing the mice.

You mean I will no longer get freshly shredded foam and scrap paper pieces blowing out of the vents to refresh me while driving. What ever did I do!!

The Prius is full of computers, it has been my experience that computers attract mice. I have a mouse right here beside my keyboard right now in fact!!

You guys are all DANGEROUSLY close to figuring out that mouse-power is the REAL secret to the Prius' great mileage!

Cyberprius, please make sure that you don't break the mouse wheel, or your mileage will drop to 25 MPG or so...

Here's some of what I found on PriusChat and Google for spray-on rodent repellents (the products are supposed to be natural, etc.):

    1. http://www.rataway.com/

    2. http://dreamingearth.com/natural-pest-control.htm

    3. "People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) suggests the following on their website : "If the rats are in a place that cannot be 'rodent-proofed,' such as a car engine, you can prepare a deterrent. Rats and other small animals cannot tolerate the scent or taste of pepper. Make a mixture of salad oil, horseradish, garlic, and plenty of cayenne pepper. Let this mixture sit for four days, strain it into a spray bottle, and spray it under the car's hood. This is completely safe for engine interiors, and it won't harm curious animals. Mothballs and peppermint oil-soaked cotton balls are also great rodent repellents and can be tucked into an engine to prevent rodents from chewing on electrical wires."

I haven't decided yet which one I will try first, but it'll probably be #1 because I like its menacing name and cheesy website.

EDIT (Supplement) - A couple of more things: (i) The rataway website says that some car manufacturers use a soy-based covering for wires/cables. So, if true, this could explain why some car manufacturers' wires/cables are more attractive to rodents. (ii) If you ever incur serious damage from rodents chewing on your wires, cables or hoses, the comprehensive portion (if you have it) of your car insurance policy should cover this.

If you read my previous link in this thread it has some great conversations about what happens when you remove the mice from your car. Read it if you need to cheer up a bit.

My garden uses to be a highway for all the cats around here at our little village. To go from roof to roof is easy for them.

So they use to piss all around, and specially in the PRIUS tires, the best mice repelent... Only you need to get used to the "flavour" when arriving to the car.

I just closed the glove box and cleaned up the final shells and nest materials from the floor of the passenger side.

I had to construct a special vacuum cleaner attachement, made of two ballpoint pen tubes jammed together to get all the nut pieces and paper pieces out of the bottom of the fan box thingie. I was pretty proud of my invention. I managed to wedge the pen tubes in a real vacuum cleaner attachment and then stick them through the plastic grill. Unfortunately, it would only pick up one nut at a time and there were about 89 of them....

It took forever, but I did manage to get all the debris cleaned out. I've attached a picture, but if any of you copy my design, you owe royalties. :p

Our cat once found a family of mice living under our garden shed. She would stake it out and nab them as soon as they came out from under the floor.

She would then kill them and leave them as an offering on our kitchen floor. Thank you hunter kitty.

This became too boring, so she started bringing them in while still alive and letting them go. Apparently it was much more challenging to hunt them down inside the house.

Luckily, she was quite efficient as a serial killer and the last dead mouse offering was over a year ago.

The closest "two-buck chuck" to me is in the Portland area, which is about 110 miles....only there it is $3.98 I've been drinking the last of my neighbor's gift of blackberry wine. Not as good as an Oregon Pinot Noir, but it is free. Pretty much everybody around here drinks it and pretty much everyone runs out about now....so maybe I better head to Portland this Saturday.

My cat is an indoor cat now. I was rather startled one morning to find (next to her catnip mouse) a real (and dead) mouse. The only one she has come up with since we moved into the house. (But now we are pretty sure there aren't any more!) She didn't help with the squirrels that got in the attic though....:(

Maybe I should let her into the garage occasionally. :p
