Yes, there are a number of pages devoted to diagnostic codes in sections for 2001 to 2003 and then 2004 to 2008. Not much in the way of exploded parts views.
I received the manual pretty fast since it shipped from about 250 miles from me.
The manual was worth it to me because there are a lot of pictures with arrows pointing to the subject matter along with good descriptions of "how to".
All in all it is a good manual, especially for someone new to the technology.
The premise is for someone that wants to do thier own work on the Prius but it mentions (wherever applicable) that some things are better left to a Toyota tech with a scan tool even though they tell you how to remedy the problem.:pop2:

That's good to hear. Just curious, any mention of the braking system and any warnings *not* to bleed the brakes without the Toyota scantool?

Chapter 9 section 6 does not mention the scantool BUT it says that whenever a part is removed from the hydraulic brake system that requires removing the air from the system (ie. bleeding), you should have "special equipment and training" and Haynes doesn't recommend the casual user doing any of the work themselves.

Today I noticed a new 2004-2008 Prius Repair Manual on Amazon. Unlike the Haynes manual this one only covers the 2004-2008 Prius, it costs 44 dollars, and it is pre-order right now (ships in June 2008). I have never heard of the publisher, do any of you have experience with repair manuals from "Bently Publishers?" Here is the link to Amazon: [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Toyota-Prius-Repair-Maintenance-Manual/dp/0837615534/"][IMG]Amazon.com: Toyota Prius Repair and Maintenance... [/ame]Here is the link to the publishers site: [ame="http://www.bentleypublishers.com/prius"]Toyota Prius Repair and Maintenance Manual: 2004-2008[/ame]

P.S. So I don't derail this thread from the Haynes Repair Manual I have created a new thread about this Bently manual: http://priuschat.com/forums/care-maintenance-troubleshooting/46082-another-prius-repair-manual.html

Bentley publishes official VW repair manuals for that manufacturer. In the distant past I owned a 1976 VW Dasher, and more recently a 1999 VW New Beetle. I bought the Bentley manuals for both cars, and they were really great. Much better than the typical Chilton or Haynes manual.

So, if Bentley can do a similar job with the Prius manual, this might be an excellent alternative for the Prius owner who finds that the official Toyota repair documentation is too much: techinfo.toyota.com

+1 except I have had BMWs in the past. Bentley manuals are more in depth and clear about procedures and they have way less errors in them.

Of course Haynes doesn't recommend it, it is called liability. But brake bleeding is easy, especially when you use SpeedBleeders.

Sorry, not true with the Prius. It absolutely requires the scantool.

The Bently Manual is EXCELLENT, I got one about two months ago, and quick delivery. You seem somewhat bitter over the Prius, tell us the problems you are having.....This site and Johns are both good for "Torque Specs" As I remember the Bentley Manual was about $45.00.

I've said this before, but All Data DIY is a great online service reference. They have all the correct procedures, including warning about the brake system and scantool brake bleed procedures, for under $20 a year subscription cost

The Prius has very specific systems. It's of no use to have a generic manual that talks about having somebody press on the brake pedal while you open a bleed screw. Try that with a Prius and you're usually screwed

I'd appreciate it if you could get back to us on that

I looked over that info and still feel brake bleeding would be easier using SpeedBleeders. Is it apparent Toyota is just covering their butts. I have been bleeding the brakes on my own vehicles for years without any issues.

You really need to do some more research and trust us a bit. It simply cannot be done without the scan tool...not butt covering, it's a necessary tool for the procedure.

So I signed up at the Toyota Techinfo site, and tried to find the manual for a 2009 Prius, but all I can find is one section at a time; and it says there are over 500 sections in the shop manual alone. And it's not in pdf, the only way I could see to save it was to print it to PDF. Am I missing something? Is there an easier way to download the entire manual, or at least a major portion of it?
    Thanks

I thought it was available as PDF...but maybe they've changed it. But yea, one section at a time. I'm sure it's an effort to reduce people from downloading the entire thing and it is a PITA which is why so many of us have the Haynes manual.

Or, why so many of us just said Screw It and subscribed to All Data DIY. I'd rather pay under $20 a year for factory-correct information than trust a vague, wishy-washy book

I noticed that older manuals are available as PDF. But the newer format is SVG View also by Adobe. It looks nice, but is more difficult to save.
    Thanks

I use Adobe Acrobat Professional 9 at my home office and at work. It easily works with Scalable Vector Graphics
