Looks like Amazon.com is taking pre-orders for a repair manual for Toyota Prius's, with tenative ship date of 15 Feb, 2008. Doesn't seem to be a bad price, and you get a pre-order guarantee. :D

So why not just go directly to Toyota and download the genuine factory shop manual?

    http://techinfo.toyota.com

Click on "Subscribe" and follow the instructions. You can get a 24 hour subscription for $10 if I recall. Get it on a Friday evening and you should have the entire weekend to download all the manual.

Did anyone else order this thing? I really prefer paper copies to the electronic ones - I'll burn up WAY MORE paper printing up pages from a service manual than if I have the Haynes manual.

And there's NO WAY I'll pay for a service manual. Not until I can find a complete one for less than $50.

I just ordered mine yesterday, and I imagine it will be in next week sometime. This Haynes manual is the only thing that will keep me from disbanding with the Prius for good. I'm tired of having to take this car into the dealership for any repair just because I don't have any torque specs!

Jayman is of course correct but it sure is fun & handy to have all the data right there in that little book without printing 3 maple tree's. Well worth the $ 17. Will def. pick one up. Thank you.

The shop manual for for the classic is a ghastly unindexed mess. The last Haynes manual I saw was not nearly as detailed, but was clearly written and easy to work from.

Looks like it will not be available until April. I received this email from Amazon yesterday.

    "Hello from Amazon.com.

Yeah, I got my notice yesterday too.:( I've had mine ordered since 8 Dec/07, still looking forward to at least having a paperback reference book to keep with the car.

So why not just download the Prius manual directly from Toyota Techinfo? How often would you possibly have to print out the manual, especially the entire thing? Every modern dealership - Toyota, Honda, GM, etc - uses electronic records, IOW an Adobe Acrobat file.

If you're not willing to visit Techinfo, try AllData DIY and purchase a subscription. I've used them to help co-workers and AllData has the same exact manual as the factory

Sometimes when you download from TechInfo the index is missing. I noticed this the first time I downloaded my FJ Cruiser manual. Had to try again to get the index, now it's a piece of cake

The documents are linked. Here is an example of my FJ manual, the brake or BR section. If you had the entire manual with the index, clicking on any index will take you to that section

One of you folks with Haynes, please write a brief review. At least thumbs up or down.

    I second that request

I would like to contrast the Haynes especially if they go into diagnostics. Since you need the OEM scantool (THHT or Panasonic ToughBook version) I really can't see Haynes getting into any detail

If all they offer is tips for changing the oil and passenger cabin filter, they are charging way too much. That sort of information is free and can be found right here

Please let us know how detailed the hybrid section is. That is, are there diagnostic codes, exploded parts view, etc

I started "reading" Haynes manuals before I could walk. I used to sit on the john and look at all the pictures.

I'll look for it at the local car parts store. I assume they will show up there shortly.
