Is it time to start a new thread for Folding at Home? Wildkow started this one over a year ago and there are 450+ replies in it - I'm thinking it might be intimidating for someone new to the concept. I'm thinking a new thread should have an overview about FAH, and some links. Links would include: the main FAH site at Stanford the download page at Stanford the Wikipedia FAH page the Kakao stats page maybe one of the nice Youtube 'promotional' videos (even though they were done for other teams) Looking for ideas!
I see we've got a new team member in Team PriusChat Folding@Home - mel_stark has started off with a bank, completing & WUs (Work Units) already today - impressive! Welcome, mel, and feel free to ask any questions, if we can help in any way.
The Folding at Home Community Forum (http://forum.folding-community.org/portal.php) was down for a few days, but it's back up again. It's a good place to find answers and get help if you have questions or problems with your 'folding' client (s).
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Mark Derail @ Sep 20 2007, 10:35 AM) </div> Not sure if anyone's noticed, but we're now in the top 250! I've been flirting with the 100Kth position myself, I should have a new work unit show up in the next update, but I doubt it would push me over. Can't get a new work unit to work on right on, so I'll be sure to turn the computer off when I leave for the day.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(nerfer @ Nov 29 2007, 03:20 PM) </div> Yup, according to the Kako stats site, our team is currently #247, thanks to all our Priuschat contributors to the 'folding' effort! And it looks like you'll break that 100,000 individual ranking in a little over a month, Nerfer - which means you're ahead of about another quarter-million folders. It all adds up. Over Thanksgiving weekend, I asked my older son, who's a systems administrator, to start folding - and to join our team. His wife bought a Silver Pine Mica Prius in August, so he gets to drive it once in a while <g>. I hope to see him show up in our stats sometime soon.
I see another new member on our PriusChat folding team - sherryt. Welcome to the team! BTW, our team has now earned more than 5 million points - way to go! Folding@Home was entered into the Guiness Book of Records a couple of months ago as the world's largest distributed computing project, when FAH passed the Petaflop mark in computing power. Every bit helps in this basic scientific research.
Whoo-hoo! I just looked at the Team stats, and as of this writing I contributed exactly 13373 credits! (Do a Google on "Leet" if you don't understand the significance of that).
Congrats on reaching such a magic number, Steve! I just drove back from your area today, having spent Christmas with my grandsons in Belchertown. I haven't gotten their father to start folding@home yet, but he's promised to look into it. It was great seeing the boys open their presents from Santa! They're 3 and 6 years old, so they're really into it <g>
Howdy, neighbor! I'm down here in the Raisin Capital. I'm folding, but for another team right now... I suppose I could put up my standard folding signature, huh?
LOL! Haven't heard it called the Raisin Capital for a while. That's great that you are folding is there any way we could talk you into folding for the Priuschat.com team? I went to Vista on both of my puters awhile back and have hated it ever since so I will soon go back to XP and hopefully start folding on those systems and maybe regain my prior standing in our stat's. Honk if you see a 2006 Super White with "HYBSRUL" tags! cya Wildkow
I will... you might see me hanging out at the airport-- Magnetic Grey '08. Well, I'm down a couple machines right now and barely holding on to my 26-spot over at DevFolding, but I will be happy to throw at least one machine at Priuschat once I get my farm back up and running.
Welcome back, Wildkow! I caught up to you in our team stats recently, but I look forward to you folding more for PriusChat and whupping me big time And Dngrsone, we'll look forward to seeing you climbing the ladder on our PriusChat team when you get your 'farm' back together.
Sweet Dngrsone! We are closing on #200 and any help would not only be appreciated but totally cool if a priuschat.com team member discovered something major! W00T! Wildkow
Say has anyone heard from chinalfr2 (aka MolangiNaeda) man he would be a huge loss to our team if we can't get him back. COME BACK CHINA/MOLANG WE NEED YOU! BTW can anyone help me get my Folding@Home sig back up, I did something to it (see code in my sig below) but since it was such a long ago I forgot how I did it. Maybe if you could cut&paste your code into a post for me I could see where I went wrong and repiar it? Thanks all and keep posting PLEASE! Wildkow
It's me. I accidentally used both tbsmith and smithtb...I've used both for various logins so it can get confusing. Sorry. Either way, I just started folding again after a very long absence. Long story short, my laptop couldn't handle it until I finally learned about undervolting, which lets it run without burning up the CPU. (So much effort for such a slow machine!) Wait about ~2 weeks and you'll see significantly better output from me once I've built the new rig. I've spent the weekend seeking out good deals on the right parts, buying them up as I find them. The only thing i can't get more or less on sale is the processor since I insist on one of the new 45nm Intel chips, which consume significantly less power than their predecessors. They're also in short supply because of widespread reports that they overclock extremely well. It makes me giddy.
