all. I went out to my car this morning and noticed a lot of light coming from the inside of my wife's new prius. It was "on" in every way except the headlights. Stereo blasting, heater blasting, motor running... You get the idea. This will not be her best tank for mpg so far . She leaves her purse in the car sometimes (smart key inside). Not a good idea, I know. And, this is not the first time this has been done. My question to all of you is this: Has anybody else inadvertantly left their prius "on" all night? Thanks, montenido
Definately not the first...and even if she'd have removed here purse and key fob the car would continue to run if she didn't shut it off...though there would have been some beeping....but there should be a beep when you open the door with the car still in READY as well. At least the car was nice and warm for ya!
Will the car run without the key somewhere close by...Like a foot or two? Just curious, has anyone started the car them drove off without the key in it? You know, like you start it then go back in the house with you keys leave them on the kitchen counter go back in the garage and drive off. Is it possible? Maybe I should try it...I am off to the car then the kitchen then the store...without the key. Will anyone give me a ride back home after I stop the engine at the store...Please, pretty please...HELP I am sure I will not be able to start it agin.
you can start the car and drive it away till it runs out of fuel.. or someone turns it off. you only need the key to start it. i've left my prius on for long periods of time.. almost always on purpose though. i did leave it on once all night. it's pretty conservative with it's fuel consumption.
Yes, with SKS, once the car is ON you can drive away from the key. Then when you shut OFF the car, you're screwed.
I am still at home and will not try to drive off without the key. So no need to come and get me at the store. Cheers.
Worst I've done so far was to pull into the garage the other day when I got home from a long day at work and just hit the 'Power' button, without hitting 'Park' first. I was like 'Yikes'... But then I recalled seeing some posts on how this is ok to do, and it will just go into Park once the Power button is pressed.
Maybe on the next version Prius (you know, the one where they FINALLY make it a plug in ...), they can put a kill switch in it ... so, for example, when the car's system detects that the driver's seat is empty for a certain amount of time, the car automatically shuts off. I'd guess 30 or 40 minutes to be more than plenty ... but heck! maybe even make it for owner adjustability! It wouldn't take a lot of engineering, and maybe some owner who keeps their pets, like a dog / cat in the garage at night, well, it won't end up dead of carbon monoxide poisoning by a car being left on.
