I just rec'd my new mud flaps and want to find out if I should install them or have the dealer do it?
If I do it myself, can I reset the tire monitoring?

Seems to me that just taking a wheel off and then re-installing it will not upset the tire monitoring. The pressure sender is in the wheel. There is no physical connection to the car except the lugs.

Yup, it's easy to do yourself and you won't mess w/ the TPMS. It might help to have a torque wrench to torque your lug nuts when you put the wheels back on. You don't have to remove the front tires, just turn the steering wheel all the way left/right when doing it.

I did mine myself in <1hour. Others have also posted that they've done the install w/o removing tires by using a screwdriver/drill with an angled adapter.

Has anyone any idea how much drag mud flaps add, and what hit you get on MPG?

Don't know, mine came with them. I have wondered about that though.

Do you notice a difference in MPG?

    I hope it wasn't a waste of $$.

I installed a set myself and had no issues with taking the wheels off and putting them back on. You should be okay and they are easy to install. I think it might be actually harder to take the wheel off than installing the mud flaps. Good luck.

It also seems to be fairly well accepted here that the mud guards present little or no impact on MPG. I don't want to bother searching for sources, but you can if you like :) When I put mine on I noticed no difference.

Also, they stopped water/mud from splashing onto my pretty car, which is worth something... they also help to distinguish my car from the bajillions of other Prii in my area :D

had mine on for almost a year and a half. no hit on mpg at all. very good mod to save the Prius from dings and dents from road debris. very good investment IMHO.

While there has to be a mileage hit, it's so small as to be unnoticeable.

The MPG hit from the mudflaps can be completely compensated by installing the shark fin, which improves aerodynamics.

There does not have to be a mileage hit from installing mudflaps and I don't believe there is. They go behind the wheels in a turbulent air area so they ride in the slipstream of the tyres. Toyota put a flap thing in front of the wheels which reduces drag by moving the air around the tyre, the tyre does the same for the mudflap.

I recieved my mud guards from "Prius Shop" this week. I'll be installing them this weekend. I'll try to take some pics.

I installed these myself in about an hour a year ago... No mileage hit as far as I could tell.

About to install my mud flaps... I have not jacked the Prius before..

Do I really have to use their jack? I have a standard roll around lever jack. Will I damage the jack point using it instead?

    Thanks,
    Jeff
