    Hey folks,

    I've just spent an absurd amount of time on this site, with Professor Google, the Yahoo Prius 2G Group, EBay, and various Toyota groups trying to figure out precisely which DVDs are compatible with our Prius. I've found contradictory charts, disagreement on whether my particular Prius is even 3rd or 4th generation, a Lexus internet dealer doing a brisk business in deceit, a seamy underworld of torrents and dark alleys, and general confusion and mayhem.

    Could you do me a favor? Just pop out your nav DVD and post the particulars in this thread. That way those of us who don't need version 7.1 but would still like a used upgrade won't have to repeat my aggravation. I'll continue to edit this message with the most current information. (If I am just duplicating something that is readily available somewhere, could someone point me in the right direction?)

    Compatable DVDs:

    Prius Year; DVD Part #; Data Version; (and just for the heck of it) the obscure codes at the 2 o'clock position on your DVD

    2004-2005; 5-464210-018; 4.2; W41 D
    2004-2005; 86271-33044; 4.2; W41 D
    2004-2005; 86271-33045; 5.1; U20 D
    2004-2005; unknown; 6.1;
    2004-2005; 86271-33047; 7.1;
    2006-2008; unknown; 5.1;
    2006-2008; 86271-53021; 6.1; U31 D
    2006-2008; unknown; 7.1;

    ask Metro?

    I don't know if anyone has actually received the 7.1 disks from him, but Metro might be able to help you out -- he works in a parts department himself.

    See this thread:
    http://priuschat.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39216

    My understanding is that the 2004-2005 models used different display technologies (analogue video output) vs 2006-present (digital displays). The actual datasets are the same (?), but since the disks apparently include drivers for bits of the DVD nav hardware, 2004-5 require different disks than 2006-current.

    That's my understanding too, tkil. However, I am hoping to not overthink this, and just compile a list of DVDs "that work." We've got a 4.2. How about a 5.1, 6.1, 7.1. Anyone?

    Why request all of this info?

    I'm sorry I don't understand the value of the request, but I am not certain of the value of some of the items you've requested. What are you going to be able to do with the data you've collected?

    Do you know the purpose of those "obscure" letters or numbers on the DVD?

    Prius Nav CD?

    I have a 2003 Prius with a CD player. Can I obtain a Nav CD & use it? Most grateful for any help on this. :confused:

    Hi A, I have been trying to find a used DVD to upgrade my nav system. If you search around, you will find some conflicting compatibility claims, especially on EBay, and even with some Lexus dealers. And, of course, everyone states "absolutely no returns." I am merely trying to compile a definitive list of DVD's that definitely ARE compitible with our Prius systems. This shouldn't be too difficult. I suspect we are not talking about more than a dozen part number/data version combinations.

    Not quite sure if you're pulling our legs or not, but the answer is "no!"

    Sorry. I wasn't pulling anybody's leg, just asking. Thanks.

    Glennie, the car must come from the factory with the Navigation system installed to use the nav DVD's. If I recall correctly, 2002 or 2003 was the first year this was available.

    Alternative Buy for Nav DVD

    Has anyone found, either on e-bay or other, a site to purchase the Nav. DVD except from the Toyota Dealers. I know version 7.? is out now but the price is still $200+. I do have an '06.

    I got this one from a work buddy.

    2004; 86271-33045; 5.1; U20 D

    This is obviously not the orginal DVD, as my 2005 came with 4.2 and this one is newer. It has to be an upgrade.

    Thanks dervatl,

    Just a few more contributions, years and data versions, and future used DVD shoppers can sleep at night, knowing their "no returns!" DVDs will work.

    Sorry to be a pain, but is there any chance that a 2004-2005 owner with version 6.1 or 7.1 could post their part number? It's pretty easy to check the DVD under the driver's seat. Some of us earlier Nav system owners are ready for an upgrade, but prefer to go used. Thanks!

    Nav data ver 7.1 for 2005

    I have a gen 4 nav unit on a 2005 Prius. A friend from work has a 2004 Prius and we use the same part number. We both recently upgraded. The part number is 86271-33047. This is data ver 07.1 .

    Thanks again, Darryl,

    Okay, a pattern's emerging. I assume the 6.1 version will have a part number of 86271-33046. Off to EBay!

    I just picked up a "used" 7.1 for $79 on EBay. The guy has oodles of good feedback and seems to specialize in nav upgrades. The photo looks like an OEM disk. Caveat Emptor. The Toyota price is absurd.

    7.1 Gen 4 still has I AGREE Message

    I installed the 7.1 DVD in my 2005 Prius and still get the "I AGREE" message. Is this correct? Or have I missed something.

    Thanks;
    Al

    I have a 2005 Prius and have never upgraded the Nav system. Would it cause issues or problems to upgrade to the 7.1 system without the prior upgrades?
