I don't know about anyone else, but I do miss the secondary titles. I realize we have the 'preview' available with 'mouse-over', but it requires effort, and many times the secondary titles provided just enough of a clarifier to know what the thread was actually about.... i.e. very easy to glance through the list of postings, rather than mouse through.

 

Me too. And I think everyone agrees. Now we have a whole library of threads where the OP titled the thread based on the primary/secondary titles format, but now we can only quickly see the primary title.

Danny, can we add back the secondary titles, or does the new software not permit it?

Now I'd say the biggest readability issue is the way sigs tend to be hard to distinguish from the text. I've followed the example of some others in making my sig green. But it would be nice if there was some uniform distinction. Maybe a larger space and a distinctive bar for a marker.

 

Not to be a nattering nabob of negativism, but is there a timeout of sorts on posts and PMs? I've lost a few in the past couple of days, happily typing away and then hitting the send button, only to be suddenly logged out and have my eloquence escape into an eternity of recycled electrons.

 

I was going to say something about sigs... Actually I was thinking about starting a thread with a general appeal to keep sigs unobtrusive, and maybe some recommendations for formatting... the sigs are really outa control right now!

That and avatars can still be huge in a bad way, e.g. spammer from yesterday, or malorn

I am curious as to the volume of postings on the new site. I happen to prefer the old one in that the main page gave you a quick snapshot of the entire BB including recent postings, hot topics, news items, etc. It is as though you took away Page One from a news paper and you have to flip through each section to find what you want or what interests you.

Search function

The search function appears to be broken. I get this message:

The search term you specified (I) is under the minimum word length (3) and therefore will not be found. Please make this term longer. If this term contains a wildcard, please make this term more specific.

 

Sorry and thanks for the heads up. This is exactly my point too.

Search for Key Words
Drop Down to Search Thread Titles Only

 

Scrolling with the ads between posts

The ads between posts make scrolling difficult on a Mac.

Recent Macs allow scrolling anytime the pointer (arrow) is within the browser window.

If, however, the pointer lands in one of those inline ads, you can't scroll.

A real pain here, and on other forums using the same software.

 

More posts

Is it just me, or has there been a huge upsurge in posting topics since the software upgrade? It seems like topics are slipping down in the queue to the third page in about a day or so, and there are a lot of new names (not to mention the troll attacks, which seemed to have been cleaned up before they got to my screen).

Has there been some new publicity, or did the upgrade incorporate another board or something?

Just curious.
