Next stupid question, I have an 08 Prius with the nav, I found the DVD under the driver seat I even see the button that says push to eject the DVD but for some reason nothing happens when I push the button. I have tried with the car on, off and in ACC. So what is the trick to ejecting the DVD?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Uncle Leo @ Nov 15 2007, 12:13 PM) </div> The car has to be "ON" (Ready or Ignition On). The button is pushed and slid to the left (towards the driver's door). This opens a dust door over the ejection slot. Push the button again for a couple of seconds and the disc pops out. Put the new disc in and push the button and slide it to the right to close the door over the slot. Now you can put the snap-on cover back on. - Tom
Not sure if this has been asked. In the 7.1 DVD for Gen 5 (06-08), what's in the service menu? Looking to see if the Override feature made a come back.... Thanks!
Jesse, Thanks for your post. My local Toyota parts department seems clueless about the upgrade. I have a 2005 Prius and still version 4.2, so I was waiting for this one. Just to be clear, it will work on a 2005 Prius and it is just a matter of popping in the new DVD in the Nav unit. No special programming required? Also what hours are you there to call and give you ordering information? Thanks David
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Sarge @ Nov 12 2007, 01:34 PM) </div> True, compared to what the stealerships charge $220 is a lower price. I wouldn't call it a decent price though. Stealership pricing is always an inflated gouging of customers!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Metro @ Nov 1 2007, 08:23 AM) </div> Jessie, I actually spoke with you a few weeks ago concerning Sirius satellite radio installation. I am from Florida. My question relates to the navigation system in the '08 Prius. I have not received my car yet. Touring, with pkg 6 and of course Sirius and a few other things. I have seen on the internet a website with a whole lot of unsatisfied and it seems legitimate customer's complaints about the Nav system. Is it THAT unreliable as to finding your destination and the issue about not being able to make data entry changes "on the fly" is a huge disappointment for most. The very disturbing thing that is troubling me is the severely unreliable information it displays as far as getting to your desired location/address. That website is: http://www.toyotaoverride.com/. as much as I hate to say it, I am seriously considering canceling my order for the car entirely.
Sorry to be so dimwitted, but does anyone know whether the 7.1 will work in my car without losing any functionality? I have a 2005 with NAV...Current version is 4.2 I have the ultimate lockpick from Coastal. ??? Thanks.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(JSL @ Nov 25 2007, 09:45 AM) </div> Let's be honest. This isn't up to the highest standards. Not a disaster, but... I use TeleNav on my PDA/Phone, and it has better POI and finds quicker routes. Where I live, the Prius often announces "I can't give you voice directions for part of the route." My PDA always can. The Prius seems to assume that you can drive about 20 MPH on non-freeways. Has a major issue with secondary roads, even when they are lots shorter. On the other hand, the maps are extremely beautiful and usable. The turn diagrams are great. Maps are often more accurate than my PDA. I often run both on longer trips so that I have a point of comparison. That's my $0.02.
Wow reading this thread confirms what I have been reading in regards to lower resale values of cars with built in nav systems. $220+ to update the maps costs more than some off the shelf systems that just get stuck to the dash and are portable. After seeing this, in my next Prius I wont need to look into any high end packages, a 2 or 3 will suffice. Of course Yahoo maps and a printer have been serving me well for quite a while now.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(ACD @ Nov 27 2007, 09:08 AM) </div> I wouldn't want an out-of-dash NAV. The day I forget to hide it, I'll find a broken window and an empty space where it used to be. Or if they break in just to poke around where I do hide it, it's gone anyway. At least with in-dash there's more work involved in the theft. Looking at $220 to take away the hidden override menu that lets my NAV act like the one in my mom's Civic Hybrid but give back, ummm, one less OK press every startup, I'll pass for at least another release or two. When I need a new car I'll think kindly about the lost override while parked to trying to use what I can use now while moving...
all these posts illustrates why i did not get the nav feature. i have VZ navigator on my cellphone, it works good, does updates about once a month (granted i have no idea what the updates are for and a few were obviously user interface changes) and it costs 9.99 a month.
I did go for the Nav option on mine, I know it cost a lot more than a standalone but, the screen is much bigger and better positioned, thefts of standalones in the UK are an epidemic - you now have to clean off the sucker marks on the windscreen or some little toerag is going to smash a window, no messing with wires - the UK Prius only has a power outlet in the centre console and I actually like the built in satnav. The toyotaoveride site made me laugh. The only reason Toyota would have put this lock into place would have been to avoid possible legal problems with distracted drivers. The site talks about legal action to make them leave themselves open to legal action  I still think I'm gonna give the hybrid disc thing a go though. Just need a dual layer disc....
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(mingoglia @ Nov 12 2007, 06:05 PM) </div> Really? Because that would be fantastic. I'd be very intrested in doing that, how would we go about it?
I apologize to those of you who were asking questions earlier. It is not always possible for me to check in regularly. You are more than welcome to send me a PM with your specific question and I will respond back as quickly as I can. I also wanted to take a moment to thank those of you who have already ordered and have been waiting patiently for their DVD to arrive. I know that it is taking a bit longer than most would prefer but we are making progress. For those of you who are still considering a purchase or those that just found this topic please be aware that if you have a specific date that you need the DVD by (specifically those who want them as Christmas gifts) I cannot make any promises as to when it would arrive. I would lean in the direction of they will not make it to in time to be under the tree. However for those that can wait you can place your order and then I ship in the order that people contacted me. If you have any other questions please drop me an email and list your specific concerns and I will address them. Please understand that there are answers to some questions that I do not know. If you want to know specific information related to performance and changes after the new disk has been installed I would ask that you approach your fellow PC members who have already done the update. Thanks again to everyone for their understanding.
I really doubt that a car with a nav system has a lower resale value. If it is a feature someone wouldn't use, they probably just wouldn't pay extra for it. I personally will not buy a car without Nav.
I had a couple of people recently want an update disk quickly. I was unable to guarantee speedy delivery so I apologized and they went on their way. Today I found that the supplier sent me ONE extra disk and I now have no customer for it. I would love to sell it to the first person that gets me on the phone, but I would like to help someone who wanted the DVD as a Christmas gift. So I would ask someone who was disappointed about the wait to get back in touch with me and tell me your story. For those of you who can wait please in the spirit of fairness let me help someone who cannot wait. For those of you who have not received yours yet, it is now on the way to you. The disk is for a Generation 4 Navigation system which fits years 2004-05. NOTE: THIS OFFER IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE. THANKS TO ALL WHO CONTACTED ME.
Does anyone know when the next is coming out? I have some streets and overpasses that are very new "as in the concrete is unmarred"..in the Fort Worth/Dallas area... I really need the latest version.
