I just got my first Prius last month and love it! I used to have a Saturn and one of the cool saftey features it had was when you put the car in drive the doors would automaticly lock and when you put it in park they would unlock. Can this same feature be done to my Prius? Or is this one of those GM only features? Thanks in advance.....
This is what you are asking for? http://www.coastaletech.com/auto_door_lock.htm I hope you get good service from Coastal E-Tech because their service could be frustrating, sometimes. I have not dealt with them before. Just for your information only.
Unfortunally the doors do not auto lock. I have a Concorde (96) and when you get to 15 to 20 mph the doors lock, not the Prius

I am so thankful that my Prius does not have auto-locking doors; some of the cars at work have it, as well as some friend's cars. It drives me nuts.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Sonny Jim @ Aug 29 2007, 06:30 PM) </div> whys that?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(SureValla @ Aug 29 2007, 06:56 PM) </div> The newer vehicles at work have that feature too. I hate it. Let 2 people out to take care of setting up the road signs, turn the vehicle around, and the damn doors have locked themselves so the people can't get back in.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(PA @ Aug 29 2007, 04:05 PM) </div> Then its a simple task of pushing the unlock button, its not as though you have to reach across to unlock the door. Each to their own, I perfer to have my doors locked.
I have the Coastal Auto-Lock (the first mod I did) and I want to mention that it only locks the first time you reach 16 mph. If you stop to drop someone off and drive away (without stopping) it won't re-lock. I've seen a custom mod on Darell's site which locks when you power up, but you'd have to make your own circuit and there's more to the install. Coastal's kit for the pre-2004 has it so the doors lock when the driver's seat belt is attached and unlock when the seat belt is opened.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(SureValla @ Aug 29 2007, 03:56 PM) </div> Locking my doors is a decision that I prefer to make for myself; I find it annoying when, as a passenger, I try to get out of my friend's car (she has a Honda Civic) and find the door locked. One of the work cars I drive (and ride in as a passenger) is a Chevy Tahoe, same thing there. Frustrating. <_<
My Toyota Crowns lock themselves at 20km/h. I loved this feature. If I unlock my Prius with the remote and don't open the door for about 30 seconds it relocks, that's a good thing too. Saves leaving the car unlocked by accident.
You mentioned Darrell's site, do you have a link? I would like to do this on my wife's Saab, maybe I could use the information from that site.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(qbee42 @ Sep 2 2007, 06:16 AM) </div> Might not be so simple in the unlikely event of a car jacking.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(patsparks @ Sep 1 2007, 06:14 PM) </div> Lock 'em if you want the doors locked, otherwise take your chances with a car jacking. Look before you pull out or you may get hit by oncoming traffic, and don't drive the wrong way down one-way streets. Seriously, it doesn't take any longer to hit the lock button then it takes to push start. It's one more step, but no big deal. I can do both at the same time. Convenience features are handy (if you want them), but if you really need them, you have no business driving a car. Tom
I was hoping for auto lock when I walked away, either by detecting the key being out of range or on a timer after key being out of range. My honda autolocks based on time after being turned off.
