Took another street to avoid a school bus, and found a Volvo 144 a block from me. It has a 240 sibling.

    An OG Insight this morning.

Driving home from the airport just now I was tailed by something that I still haven't quite nailed down. Looked like a 4th generation Celica, but was not one. Similar pop-up headlights but the turn signals were below the popups like the Nissan Pulsar, but it was too small to be a Pulsar.

Bugging me because I can't figure out what it was...

Nope, definitely not one of those. I would've recognized an RX for sure.

Also whatever manufacturer it was, the badge was in the center of the nose, not offset to the side like Mazda did back in those days.

Closest fit so far is a Mitsubishi Starion, but even that doesn't seem quite right.

That was rebadged as the Conquest for the Chrysler group. A look at some photos of the Dodge shows some differences from the Starion.

    Hmm could be?

Just saw a classic RX-7. Still moving so I guess the apex seals aren't shot yet.

Or changed out. Still a lot of Wankel engines running around the landscape in Sand Dune type vehicles. They're quite light

I had a 1979 RX-7. Engine was so smooth it warned you with a buzz when you reached the redline.
A big improvement over my 1973 Triumph Spitfire.

A 90's Mitsubishi Eclipse, and a beautifully restored Beetle, with its original California license plates.

ahh yes - antique plates. Our original oldie SoCal plates ... steel stamped 1963. First registered use by a great uncle's fcc radio licence. When he passed, we were able apply for his license designation. States used to steel stamp license #'s - even the state name as well. Our Montana home state now goes cheap, opting for a thin sheet of aluminum with a luminescent sticker/decal # so the plate readers can detect you more easily. Our old black Calif rear plate is still in pristine shape but man ... after over 62 years - that front plate is pockmarked from decades of road debris.

A Ioniq PHEV; I don't I spotted one of those previously.

RHD Land Cruiser with a lift. It had seen better days.

My parents' handyman has a Chevy pick up that predates the hulking beast movement.
