I think this is a prime example why measuring trade as unfair by trade deficits is stupid. Most of canada pays more for electricity than the US, but quebec has at least a couple of years ago the least expensive electricity. It sells some of it to the US. Today Ontario that manages the transmission lines to the US (other than maine) put on a 25% tarrif. Are people in michigan, ministota, and ny better off without the cheap electricity. It is likely to ripple through ohio too if kept on. That will make if more expensive to produce cars in the US, as will the tarrif on canadian steel. The US exports electricity to british columbia, as it is cheaper to produce in washington state. Then british columbia sells some electricity to alaska, as it is cheaper to produce. The main things that cause the trade deficit, lumber and oil. Canada could sell them to china instead, and US could import more oil from opec and do poor forest management so that it could make up the trees in the short term and hurt in the long term, it doesn't make much sense.

Toyota has found producing cars in texas is less expensive than canada. So much for unfair trade practices. Still how much more will toyota have to charge if they abandon the canadian factories and supply chains and have to build them quickly in the US?

Tariffs are a regressive tax that bleeds lower income folks so the wealthy can kill progressive income and death taxes.

So Everything involved in Canadian auto manufacturing is more expensive.....
    Tax rates are higher.
Labour Unions which lower efficiencies and make for inflated wages (we have that problem here as well for some brands.....)
    More regulatory expenses.

But because the CAN$ is 31% cheaper than the USD$ this makes it cheaper for us to buy your cars than ours?????
Something about that seems off to me - but I'll take your word for it... o_O
So in Canada, your government doing a thing is cheaper than a private company doing a thing?

    Wow.
    Learning lots here.....

The thing about socialist Canada Medicine is that higher taxes pay for it. Whatever you get is what you get. A buddy's uncle died waiting for cancer treatments, not that this is necessarily happening to everyone. Even so, some guy in the upper Canadian government who has a heart valve transplant replacement goes right to the front of the line, just like if Kobe Bryant pulls muscle tendons, he goes to the front of the line under our pay for what you can get medical programs. Even illegal aliens get to use the USA emergency rooms, as those free (to all down &outers) expenditures are passed onto everyone's insurance companies & Medicare costs. In urban areas, it was common to spend an hour + in the waiting room if you went to Urgent Care/ER for something like breathing problems or AFib. Congress? President? Basketball player LeBron james? Not so much. Both systems have plenty of folks that get to cut the line.

Around here, medical costs keep rising, but services and treatment availability are declining.
I’d like to see trunk and Leon fix that

Socialism doesn't always start with eradicating another party. As for the Nazi party - & hate to disappoint you but who's kidding who (from wiki) ....

Germany has had socialized medicine since the founding of the original empire in 1870. That was even during the era of Nazism.

I don't even think that's the only example of a political party giving itself a name playing to values very different from the ones it intends to pursue once in power.

Nifty though that a choice of name made to confuse people a century ago can still be used that way today, just by acting as if it was some kind of historically careful classification instead of a party's choice of how to deceptively name itself.

Not exactly. Basketball players aren't cutting the line.
Its because there are multiple lines and one is for them, another for Congress, etc.

They don't even get an electricity bill in Canada. It is called the hydro bill.
