I see a new drug for improved pneumonia resistance.
After having it last year, do not want it again.
I’ll talk to my doctor next appointment

Sounds like measles is back and RFK Jr. is right on it. He claimed those in the hospital were there for isolation and didn't mention their isolated respiratory treatment so they won't die. He should visit the hospital directly and get the facts and data. Take some of his friends from CPAC with him too.

I don't get the measles thing, much less children dying from measles. Didn't many of the 60s parents have chicken pox & measles & mumps parties so that they could get all their kids herd immunity at one time? Or was that just done with mumps or chicken pox.

I had some of those parents and I may have heard that I am a survivor of a measles party. I don't remember it so can't complain much. Don't think I'd have complained about the vaccine either.

Chicken pox parties 1950s 1960s maybe 1970s were to spread childhood infections of this low-fatality disease, to expand immunity against adult onset, known to be worse. No one would sensibly have a measles party because that is more fatal. do not know about mumps or rubella.

MMR vaccines arrived about 1971. Chicken pox vaccines arrived about 1995. Following those developments, ‘infection parties’ had no luster.

Measles is a bad boy with apparently highest Ro infectivity and with some fatality. MMR vaccine against it has done extremely well globally, but with its very high Ro, very high %vaccinated are required.

Current hot media on US measles infection has centered on communities where vaccinations are far below (what as seen as ideal) 95%. Not to diminish this, 2019 was much worse for US measles (do your research). Now it seems that some vaccine hesitant are signing up:

There is a chance that new HHS leadership will act against public welfare. I hope more that public in general will rise above that.

Measles 0.4% die. Chicken pox 0.004% die. Measles parties would have posed 100X higher death risk than chicken pox parties. Not saying that parents at the time would have had actual data.

We are beset by newly challenging diseases. I ask that someone starts a separate 'new disease risk' discussion here.

Having had 3rd-degree burns as well as well as the latent aftermath of measles, "shingles" .... both we're on par with each other's pain levels. Passing an 8mm kidney stone after 8 days was the only pain bairly worse ....
Thankyou Shingrix ... your side effects were not pleasant, but worth the experience compared to the alternative.

The cdc assumes that if you were born before 1957, you probably had measles, mumps or rubella, and therefore do not need to be vaccinated.
But that doesn’t make sense if big pharma is lining their pockets

At present, MMR vaccine costs about one dollar globally. Should say at wholesale I guess. What it costs to get vax in hospital (markup) does not go to Pharma.

It may have generated substantial Pharma profits in earlier decades - one would need to look.

Chickenpox (Varicella) vaccine became available in various countries from 1996 to 1999. Efficacy 90%, uptake rate about 50% for children in US. Varicella Virus Vaccine is a live virus vaccine. Little chickenpox party in your (child’s) arm!

Shingles is a painful rash caused by the reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus (VZV), the same virus that causes chickenpox.

“The first shingles vaccine, Zostavax, was licensed in 2006; a second shingles vaccine, Shingrix, licensed in 2017, produces a more robust immune response than Zostavax did. Two doses of this vaccine, separated by two to six months, are recommended for people 50 years and older. In 2019, Zostavax was no longer available.”
    https://www.chop.edu/vaccine-education-center/science-history/vaccine-history/developments-by-year

“... The study found 2 doses were 76% effective”
    https://divisionofresearch.kaiserpermanente.org/shingles-vaccine-strong-effectiveness/

Shingrix uptake about 35%. Shingrix is a lyophilized varicella zoster virus glycoprotein E (gE) it acts as an antigen to stimulate immune response to reactivation of varicella.

TL;DR both vaccines act against the same virus. They are different composition. If one is at risk of getting shingled, there is no need to put in the virus because you already contain it. Shingles vax is to prepare your immune system to respond if it pops back up.

I heard all those reports and went in for the shots with trepidation, but I guess fortune was smiling on me. Second shot made my arm hurt.
