Gen 3 Prius owner here, I learned the hard way about using LED and incandescent bulbs together. I'm back to all incandescents, but still my low beams are entirely too dim. I hate blasting people with the highs, but really cannot see enough on dark roads at highway speed even with brand new bulbs. Also tried polishing the headlight housings and carefully orienting the bulbs in the magnifiers. No joy. What I'd really like to do is force the DRLs to turn on along with the low beams, as that would provide better lighting. I could wire those circuits together, but I'm not sure if that would create too much load on the fuses and wiring. If there's a way to do this in Techstream, it sure would be handy... is anyone up on this subject? Thanks
I think a 2015 headlight is very bright, there shouldn't be any issues unless your headlight lenses are really bad or you have issues with your headlight. If you want slightly more light, you can install fog lights, that should give you a little more light. But it shouldn't make a huge difference. Running lights won't do anything for you at night
Interesting, the DRLs look brighter to me at night than the low beams. So maybe my reflectors are toasted. I also notice that the magnified light on the low beams is very directional, a narrow beam. I don't see an easy way to polish the magnifiers so maybe I'll try some replacement reflectors.
post a picture of your headlights. if your lights are in poor shape, it would be better to just buy a nice used set to replace them (entire headlight assembly)
I got the best light in my persona with LEDs in both positions made by AUX their s1 series which are now probably up to S4 or something initially I did the low beams and I had the high beams with just the halogens there because I rarely use them and then I just switched out the high beams later just because and on the low beams even when my outer lenses were not in the best of shape the light was extremely bright and the cut off was correct In factory Toyota housings open high beam the fake projector low beam so I'm not sure what's happening with your car that's pretty wild I'm not overly light sensitive or anything but I almost never use the high beams in the persona
Not near the car right now but there is a bit of moisture in one of the projectors on damp mornings. I attributed it to a hairline crack, which I epoxied up. Maybe a $150 set of projectors is the best fix.
I see plenty of headlights for sale on facebook marketplace and offerup. That will be your best bet to get a nice set from there
All LED bulbs aren't created equal - you need to get the lumen output specifications. The LED bulbs with a fan or large heat sink are usually the high output ones that output almost the equivalence of a HID. Color temperature of 6K is the blinding white light down to 3K for the soft amber or fog lamps. Higher than 6K starts getting into the purple range, but tends to blind on-coming traffic; especially if you don't have them pointed correctly. You may want to check your return ground wires from your headlamp assemblies. A high resistance ground would limit power flow to your headlamps resulting in lower light output. Hope this helps.... FWIW; I ran a combination of halogens (high beams) and LED (low beams) for several years on my 2012 PriusC. DLR's was a very rapid flash, turn-on the headlamps, flashing would go away. The DLR circuit simply cut voltage to the low beams, power was consistent when lamps are turned on.
The reason I have the s ones is for the large heat sink and no fan That's a big thing I had fan units before they wine make noise sound ridiculous at a stoplight things like that so I wanted to make sure I got fanless for both the high and low beam when each were done Dead quiet no problems haven't seen them throttle back from getting too hot or anything so everything seems like a win-win I'll let everybody know when it isn't but in the Gen 3s I'm not driving those now so they're just sitting there with the bulbs in them never turning on need to try and sell those housings or something
