Good evening Has anyone begun using the Valvoline restore and protect motor oil? I decided I would try it today. The experiment has begun. Brian
Interested and watching for updates on your experiment. The R&P motor oil is suppose to clean away the old accumulated sludge in old dirty engines. How many miles do you have on your car? Mine is approaching 196K and looks to have a decent amount of brown buildup when I peeked into the oil filler hole.
Mine is coming up on the second VRP oil change. Our 2007 at 140k (just a week or so ago) has been using about 3/4 of qt per 5000 miles and it is still close to that. The dipstick had a little yellow/brown varnish on it before and that is now gone. Other than that, nothing to report. I don't drive very much these days. At the current rate it will take 4 years to get through the four oil changes Valvoline says it takes for this product to do its thing. I'm not betting heavily on "restore" with respect to that (not terrible yet) oil consumption, but hoping the "protect" will keep it from getting any worse.
Good morning.... My 2008 just turned 257000. I am the second owner. Fortunately the previous owner was on top of there oil changes. I also did a B&G engine treatment last year. I hope the new motor oil is not snake oil. I still believe in changing my oil every 3500 miles.
I totally get it. I am with you on your hopes. My 2008 was using about a quart every 4000 miles. I did a B&G engine treatment last year. I thought it is worth a try on the new Valvoline. I will use it for 2025 and change my oil every 3500 miles and evaluate things later in the year. We drive my Prius primarily to keep miles off of my wife's fiesta.
Looked it up, and seeing some intellectual bait-and-switch. The site: Restore & Protect - Valvoline™ Global The headline: The fine print: Meaning: it’ll take a while, say 2 years, and “your mileage may vary”?
Yes, zero is included in the range "up to 100%". The stuff does take varnish off of metal. It isn't clear to me under what conditions it would remove the really tough stuff that locks in the oil control rings, or if the Prius with its motor off half the time, is in that cleaning state often enough for it to work on that car.
