Car fired up no problem. Dash lights did not come on. Car would not turn off normally. Holding the start button down finally turned the car off.
Refired the car after a 2-minute break and all was fine.
I have not used the car since (couple days). Anything to be concerned about? Hoping the extreme below zero F weather caused this?

The capacitor in the instrument cluster needs to be replaced.
Have you ever worked with electronics? Can you solder components onto electronic boards?

Yes. This was caused by the cold weather. Both my Gen 2's did this until I had the combination meter repaired. I sent mine into TexasHybridBatteries and he fixed them up. Installed them and I no longer have to worry. That was in 2019 back in cold Colorado.

Thanks everyone. Has not happened again. I'll know if it continuous.

Just editorial, should "start up" in the title be "shut down"? If so, if you hit the report button you can ask moderator to revise.

One reason: I was just watching a YouTube video by Car Wizard (auto mechanic), and he was diagnosing a corolla with start-up issue, specifically in cold weather. Turned out to be low compression, due to the low-compression piston rings
    .

ugh, never mind. Should read more carefully.

I'd have a hard time believing that my dash display lights failing to come on at initial startup had anything to do with low compression. At least I'd hope that would be completely unrelated!
