My battery went dead and I couldn’t start the car and had to call Geico to get a jump start. is their any way to add a switch to the cargo light, or disable it in the menus? I’d still like to be able to turn it on at times but would prefer it to be off most of the time.
Don't they normally turn off after 5 or 10 minutes when it's left open? Ours is LED so the draw is minuscule
Hey there, yea I recently found a someone that sells something like that on eBay, it has a on and off switch, off being permanently off, and on being regular oem function. Been couple of days since I bought mine, it’s VERY bright and works well. Listing is “LED trunk light for 2023 prius”Cheers!
The existing light is not very bright, and in a poor location. Mounting the light on the hatch works well.
My solution: always lock the car, even in the garage. If the hatch door is ajar, it won’t lock. (FWIW This happened to me last year on my 2006. The AAA guy who came to jump the car said I was the second Prius with that problem that day! In my case, a cloth shopping bag kept the hatch from completely closing. Oof!)
When I got mine last year, a dead battery was almost a daily occurrence. I had to carry a booster pack, because I didn't have the patience to call for a jump start every time. I don't know the exact voltage where it happens, but it only has to drop a little below 12V for there to be a message saying "battery too low" and it won't start up the car. There should be a simple mod that takes a small amount of power from the 222V hybrid battery, to activate the DC-DC converter in order to charge the 12V battery to start the car. Instead, you are expected to get a jump start or call the dealer. Totally stupid design.
Or find and remedy whatever imposing the excessive load on the battery. If it’s systemic Toyota “should” step up. Don’t hold your breath.
The drain was variable when I measured it. I decided to assume it had something to do with the data connection for over the air updates. I had a dealer check it out, and they had no answers. At any rate, my workaround is a battery maintainer and an auxiliary battery.
