I purchased a GENIUS1 to keep my 12V in good condition during periods of inactivity. So far I've seen the LED Solid Red and now it's Green Pulsing but not sure that means "Bulk Charge Complete ..." or "Maintenace Green LED". Both are described as pulsing green. I havent been watching it very frequently so I'm not sure if it ever got to the "Solid Green LED". Right now the best I can describe the Green LED behavior as pulsing from bright Green to dim but not totally OFF Green. I'm speculating the Green LED actually turns completely off during the Maintenace phase pulsing. Is this correct? Thanks, J
I have the Noco Genius 5 and have an AGM battery replacing the OEM. When the charger has completed the optimization cycle, the LED will be solid green. It takes a long time to get the solid green. In my case it was 24 hours plus to get the solid green LED. Per the user guide, it may pulse after the optimization cycle is complete to maintain battery state. Cheers
I wish I were home to look. My bolt is sitting for 3 months with the genius one connected. I can only say that it worked fine last year, although the 12 v was almost new
It seems a pulsing Green can mean two different things. Is there a subtle difference to tell them apart? Thanks, J
No, slowly pulsing green LED means that the charging profile has not been completed yet. It takes up to about 48 hours or more for the charging profile to be completed, as the last phase of the charging profile is a very long small-constant-current charging phase. It will only be completed after a certain voltage is reached at this small constant current (14.5 V for a flooded cell or 14.8 V for an AGM cell). Once the charging profile is completed, the green LED will stop slowly pulsing and turn solid, which means that now the charger is in the maintenance (standby) mode. It will restart the charging only after the battery voltage falls below a certain value (probably around 12.6 V for a flooded cell), and when that happens, it will go through the charging profile again with the LEDs (including the green one) slowly pulsing. Excellent. Will small ad hoc current draws interfere with the process? Things like opening a door or even approaching the vehicle with a smart key fob and the car turning on puddle lights and other things like that?
Nope, not really. See the real-time graph I linked above that shows such parasitic-drain inverted peaks during the Noco Genius charging. The large one is probably the nightly EVAP check.
